  1. If it's a for-sure thing that Biden is stepping down—and that is looking increasingly certain—then it is good we are escalating this story now so we can steal some attention away from the Unified Reich rally. In the any-publicity-is-good-publicity era, that's a plus, because it would serve to divide people's attention and undermine the efforts to make anyone who is not a hardcore-D voter fall completely in love with Trump the Badass Strongman that Mark Violets' bullet couldn't fell. But as I posted yesterday, I think the Democrats could completely win this news cycle by announcing the change today, in advance of Agent Orange taking the stage. That's doubly important because you just know Trump is going to steal attention and win every news cycle during the Democratic Convention next month. Fight future fire with proactive fire, I say. Of course, announcing it today is completely dependent on Democrats having their **** pulled together on the whole thing. If they don't—and there's a better chance than not that they still don't—and they were to half-ass an announcement today, I believe it would completely blow up in their face. They would have to thread the needle to get it just right, and there are a lot of ways it could go wrong. But if they get it just right, then oh boy, we are back in this thing. I put the likelihood of announcing it today in the 10% or so range.
  2. Maybe we all need a group hug here.
  3. Will Leitch has obviously not watched the Tigers this month, apparently not even when we were playing the Dodgers, which, really, I'm not surprised. He appears to be getting his input strictly from topline season data. At least he's aware TORK! was sent down, although he clearly has no idea how badly TORK! has been doing there and that he might be down for the rest of the season. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-power-rankings-for-week-of-july-14?partnerId=it-20240718-10493459-mlb-1-A&utm_id=it-20240718-10493459-mlb-1-A&lctg=4019258656 23. Tigers (previously: 24) Season high: 7 | Season low: 24 The Tigers have had some excellent pitching atop their rotation this year from Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty, but the offense just hasn’t been there – again. There are still young players to have hope for in the future. But one hopes those hitters emerge in time for the pitching to still be there. Reasonable Expectation: Signs of progress from their young bats, including Spencer Torkelson once he returns to the bigs.
  4. Don't know why, it's a pretty hilarious Twitter feed, at least for the first 30 or so seconds.
  5. As far as you're concerned, Biden dropping out would be an unmitigated disaster no matter who were to replace him, but that's a different topic than I am contemplating here. I have not said I want Biden to be replaced—or even that I don't want that, for that matter. The only thing I want for sure is for Trump to lose, and despite the thirty or forty or whatever it is percent of total polls that are flooding the zone out there showing that Biden is tied or ahead or at least holding ground versus last week, I am not confident that Biden is the guy who has the best chance to do so. He might be, but I truly have no sense of it either way. What I am saying is that if a change were to be made, I do believe that the party's best chance to beat Trump this fall would be Gretchen Whitmer. I'm not interested in discussing the weeds about how she would build a team, or get donors on her side, or any of that, because I am talking in terms of "if", not "I want". If I were coming from "I want", I would have to contemplate it. Instead, all I am saying here is, if Biden were to be replaced, then based on articles I have seen that have discussed various possible replacements, I believe Gretchen Whitmer would have the best chance of beating Trump in a general election. (That's setting aside Michelle Obama, of course, who, while polls I have seen show that Democrats believe she would be the runaway favorite among all options to beat Trump in a general, she is not a serious option in any way to replace Biden.)
  6. That’s not my theory, and I don’t know where you got that.
  7. As concerned as I would be that the electorate is still in a place in which a major party's candidate being a woman would siphon off enough marginal votes to be decisive, if a change were to be made, I do believe that the party's best chance to beat Trump this fall would be Gretchen Whitmer.
  8. Come here then ... thaaat's it ... shh shh shhhhh ... it's OK, buddy ... don't worry, it's gonna be all right ... you're safe now ... the black helicopters can't hurt you anymore ...
  9. That’s not my theory. I don’t know where you got that. But what I don’t understand is how you could leave out the most important piece of the puzzle from your source:
  10. Yeaaaahh, I don’t think that was a gaffe …
  11. Fantastic tweet, literally. How could we not know that the ACLU, the Jews, and the ghost of H.W. were in on it … 😳
  12. Now the fascism is polling better, cspan has to find equal time for the fascists. Now democrats can claim cspan is biased against them for elevating fascist outsiders as being legitimate political actors, same as how republicans claim cspan is biased against them for citing NYT and WaPo articles on air.
  13. Blackburn referred to Trump as POTUS in this video.
  14. Someone needs a hug.
  15. Nothing is real. - John Lennon
  16. Only on balls in play.
  17. Exactly. Well, minus Basallo and Kjerstad, but otherwise, yeah. In fact, Skubal for Baumeister and Arias at 3:59pm on draft day would be the platonic ideal of an Avila deadline trade, since Baumeister can’t stop walking guys and Arias can’t hit or play D.
  18. I don’t think that’s true. I’d think Harris understands what the impact of a trade of prime assets would be on the team and the city. Harris would definitely brief Hinch beforehand but I don’t think Hinch would get much more than “how about this guy” consideration. I don’t believe Hinch would offer up candidates or get veto power or anything like that. The clubhouse would definitely be an issue, unless you believe they don’t care as well. I think a marginal number of fans would peel off if they thought the Tigers were selling off stars indiscriminately. We here are the very rare fans who would understand the efficacies of that kind of moves. We’re a tiny minority when it comes to that.
  19. The Democrats could steal the news cycle from Trump if they announced anytime between now and tomorrow night.
  20. Do you mean Nike, or other than Nike?
  21. In any event, first things first: there is no deal getting done until we figure out whether the run the Tigers on can go through the rest of the month. If the Tigers go 7-4 or better by the deadline, they are a .500+ team, and trading key pieces, in particular the top of your staff, would be a hard sell to the manager, the guys, and the fans.
  22. This right here. We have a gaping hole to close in the middle of the dirt and Holliday could do that starting next year.
  23. Juan Soto is also a modern day Ironman.
  24. Not only would I be shocked to see Boras selling out Gunnar Henderson for a 5-year team friendly deal, I think the entire industry would also be.
