  1. Related to my post from a couple days ago, if the media were to learn that the Trump campaign staged the entire thing, there is no way they could report that without looking completely unhinged, so completely has Trump checkmated them through sheer force of will.
  2. I was just reminded that this trade involved the Padres #1. #2. #4, and #5 prospects, from the #17 system that preseason.
  3. Perhaps only because they haven't figured out a way to divide the All-Star teams in any different way. They tried the USA vs the World thing in the Futures game until it finally, finally, dawned on them how icky it sounds. Maybe at some point they will appoint captains and name teams after them, such as Team Judge vs. Team Ohtani. They do that in the NBA, right? But even still leaning into the AL vs NL distinction, they apparently designed the uniforms to erase as much identification with players' teams as they could manage to get away with, even on the caps. I find that offensive, but then, I am very old and they already got me anyway, so they don't have to target anything to me anymore.
  4. So that's what the thread is about? Okey doke.
  5. Was the love coming from inside the house or outside the house?
  6. Just serves to remind us that every generation has its own traditions, and every tradition started out as heresy.
  7. I also saw a Clemens start when he had 299 wins. The Cubs' starter was Kerry Wood, who was still considered hot stuff at the time, and it turned out to be the Hee-Seop Choi game. https://sabr.org/gamesproj/game/june-7-2003-hee-seop-chois-injury-overshadows-wood-clemens-pitching-duel-at-wrigley/
  8. The Tigers will spend when the time is right. The time is simply not yet right.
  9. They did it in the 50s, too. In fact, a ballot-stuffing scandal caused Baseball to take the vote away from the fans because it undermined the integrity of the All-Star game. Isn't that just precious? https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/13168334/1957-cincinnati-fans-stacked-all-star-team-too
  10. Who are you thinking here? I'm guessing Tork might not yet be one of them. 😁 Henderson is a Boras client, so that's a no, at least on team-friendly terms. FWIW, so is Jackson Holliday. Plus, Holliday is the #1 prospect on the Orioles, and #1's probably don't do that. The time to lock up young talent to long team friendly contracts is before they start raking in the bigs, that is, before they know they can succeed so they are motivated to lock in the security. Once they start succeeding in the majors, once they know they're good enough to get good and paid, that team-friendly window is shut. Rutschman is already a 2x All-Star now so no incentive for him to sign on team terms. Kjerstad is killing it right now, so he also might be too far gone for that. Maybe Cowser, who's struggling right now so you can buy low, plus he topped out at #4 on Pipeline, like Colt Keith. So, sign him to that contract.
  11. Oh, so is this thread about me now? Outstanding.
  12. Yes, that is what we want to get away from.
  13. Oh, it accomplishes something, all right.
  14. There is. It's called "combating affirmative discrimination."
  15. Maybe he got that idea from Kim Jong Un?
  16. I was criticized more than once during my working career for bringing up contingencies that had not happened that I thought we needed to plan for. We've never seen anything like that happen, let's keep living in the real world here. That kind of thing. To be fair, most of the them ended up not happening.
  17. Ooh! Ooh! Do the one where the cop climbed to the roof, saw the shooter, then climbed back down!
  18. Like her vagina?
  19. But any prosecutor named Jack Smith can't prosecute a president if he is named Trump is definitely in the Constitution. The bible tells me so.
  20. I'm old enough to remember "they're old enough to fight and die for their country, they should be old enough to take a drink." Ah, good times ...
  21. Yes, that will be a thing, but window is open now and for the next several years
  22. He likes the young’uns … 😉😂
  23. USA! USA! USA!
  24. I know we all hate the All-Star uniform so I won’t litigate that here. What I am getting a sense of it that Baseball is trying to erase the association between player and team, and distinctions between leagues, in a bid to make the sport more like the NBA, that is, personality-driven and not team-driven. That’s why I think players will never wear their regular uniforms in the All Star game again, and why MLB.com defaults to MLB leaders and not AL and NL leaders, and why the Savant does not even show the team name next to the players on their lists.
