  1. There's no way .343/.438 .781 OPS, 123 OPS+ with a minus glove gets Malloy to a 7 WAR across a whole season, is there? I'm not sure that level of hitting gets even a center fielder with a gold glove to seven wins in a full season.
  2. My guess is that his speech will be some version of, "I am in disagreement with much of the platform at this convention, and in normal times I would be at the RNC arguing against it, but in the end, we would all be on the same side: America's side. That is what democracy is all about. But these are not normal times. We are in an existential crisis, democracy is on the brink, and that being the case there is only one way I can vote: for democracy. And democracy is being upheld by only one candidate, which is why I will cast my vote for Kamala Harris for President of the United States."
  3. If Malloy’s not going to bring a glove to the game, his OPS+ should be at least 125. Otherwise he’ll probably be sub-2 WAR.
  4. Understanding I could probably easily look it up on Reference, I wonder how common it was that NL teams going to NYC would play the Dodgers and Giants back to back.
  5. The Tigers are coming at a great and weird time. The eyes of the nation and much of the world are on Chicago at the moment, so getting around freely has its challenges, but also, the weather here this week is spectacularly summery in the way you dream in February it will be.
  6. If you don’t go Saturday, you’ll miss Skubal.
  7. Since it’s the White Sox, it’s going to be only half an MLB game. Ease the kids in. Good strategy.
  8. Jim Price was my Tigers Fantasy Camp coach in 2008. He really was a swell fella in all the best senses of the word.
  9. All the best to Austin Riley, but if he were going to break his wrist anyway, too bad he couldn’t do so by July 30.
  10. This should mean Trump is on his last legs. Which he might literally be.
  11. And by the way, in Roger Stone’s world, so are all the rest of us.
  12. Tweet buried the lede here: song goes, “make the ballots fake on Election Day; no matter who votes, counts on the take …” Basically, the vote’s going to be fake no matter what. To be a Trump voter is to have zero faith in the electoral process, and if you don’t win power by the vote, what does that leave as the only way to win power?
  13. Norman Vincent Peale ran what snake-handling evangelicals would call a “cult”.
  14. I'm sorry, I fell out of my chair when I read "Christian Faith" and couldn't finish the rest of it.
  15. How insane would it be if Beyoncé and Taylor Swift showed up together and introduced Kamala to the convention Thursday night? Talk about electric! That would basically sew up the under-30 vote and drive record turnout among them!
  16. Awesome, they see AOC as someone they want on the inside and to give a platform to raise her profile.
  17. I'll be on the north side Tuesday and Thursday and on the south side Saturday! Then I'm coming into town for Red Sox-Tigers the following Friday. They're playing good, exciting ball with a good chunk of the future on the roster now, so, should be a good time to see them play!
  18. We have a shot at a ring!
  19. If he has another week even close to last week, they need to move him up to Erie.
  20. He’s not staying in Comstock Park for much longer.
  21. I think of "plateau" as meaning this is as good as Malloy's going to get, and I believe most of the rest of the world thinks of it as that, too. I have my doubts as to whether Malloy has plateaued. I think he has room to get better. I don't know whether that includes his glove, but if .700 OPS is his plateau, then we might as well start looking for ways to cash him in.
  22. Three games in and Sweeney is already toast? Hmm. But I do agree that he is not considered a top SS prospect, since he was brought up right away and not meticulously groomed. When guys aren’t actual prospects you don’t gently onboard them—you throw ‘em into the deep end of the pool. Jobe is in Erie walking five guys every nine innings. You want him up here right now walking eight or nine per nine? I don’t. McKinstry will go somewhere once we get enough prospect pieces up and we don’t need him anymore. Until then, we need him. Foley is a UDFA, so his ceiling was already considered low, and he has probably already broken through it and is peaking right now. I agree Tork will probably be on the block. I don’t think Carpenter will be. Navigato is basically Trey Sweeney in terms of upside. Gage who? I’m 100% with you on the rest.
  23. I hope he hasn’t plateaued as a rookie! That would make for a short career!
  24. Lowest common denominator announcers.
