I can’t express strongly enough how sad this makes me. I knew him not only as a player and a broadcaster, but as my Fantasy Camp team coach (along with Johnny Grubb) in 2008. He was a great guy, never a sharp word or tone that I ever saw, easy to talk to. Rode in a car with him and Rusty Kuntz and learned some interesting things I will never forget. He was a true gentleman. RIP Jim.

Edwin Jackson might have been the best return of all of these, pitching over 200 All-Star innings for us, and we did flip him as the second piece of the three-teamer that returned Austin Jackson and Max Scherzer, a trade he was definitely competitive on.

Also, Eugenio Suarez, Robbie Ray, and Avisail Garcia, who are all in the middle of good big league careers right now. Might as well add to the list Cody Ross, Jair Jurrjens, Matt Joyce, Curt Casali, Corey Knebel, Jose Alvarez, and Devon Travis, all of whom had success at the big league level with other organizations, some quite a bit, after we traded them for either rentals or garbage. This is not to say that Dombrowski never made any trades that he won—I won't add Cameron Maybin or Andrew Miller to this list for obvious reasons—but it's not as though he kept all the good prospects and traded away only the flotsam. His record is mixed, at best, probably in line with other GMs of similar stature.

God I can't wait until we no longer have to troll the wire for somebody anybody. -
I could see college-age women being far more likely to vote than college-age men, if for no other reason than the abortion issue, which is certainly a clear and present issue for them.

My recollection is that WJR wanted a younger, cheaper option than Ernie, and Bo basically volunteered to run interference for them, perhaps since they were instrumental in constructing Bo's hagiography in the first place and he felt somewhat beholden to them. EDIT: I see everybody posting after me spooled out the details and they match up with how I remember it, including that it was 100% Jim Long. Based on my one encounter with him, I totally feel him as the guy would be behind it.

One problem is no one wants to be the first to sacrifice their career as a bomb-throwing do-nothing Republican by going after Trump. Another problem is if they go after Trump and hammer him for his specific set of crimes, that removes the option of committing the same crimes.

I’m in an online league using OOTP 23, and it sucks to have to see Anderson’s punchable mug every time I launch the game.

I don’t know how old you are so maybe you remember, but it is hard to overstate just how much of a god Bo Schembechler was around the Detroit area, particularly during the 70s. I mean, the guy was basically Woody Hayes Jr, but since the authentic Woody Hayes was still around, Bo looked reasonable and like a good guy in comparison, especially since he was defied week after week by the Detroit sports media and Bob Ufer. Bo could do no wrong, and this was even after losing five straight Rose Bowls. It was downright cultish. Thank god Ernie dragged him down, although he himself got a little bloodied along the way.

It will also depend on whether they think Lorenzen can be part of their future, which is what a multi-year deal would suggest, versus being a flippable asset. -
And that's all I meant by it, full stop. All the rest of it is unrelated.

The point was never that Trump is actually Jesus. The point is that his disciples see him as Jesus-like. It is in that sense that he is the movement's Jesus, which is what this article confirms, not that he is objectively Jesus. And neither you nor I could ever convince them otherwise.

Cause for worry or not? 1 big thing: How Trump could walk Photo Illustration: Natalie Peeples/Axios. Photo: Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images Top Trump officials privately concede some of the charges against him are damning, dangerous and provable. Why it matters: If Trump is likely to lose in court in even one of his three — probably soon to be four — criminal prosecutions, he may turn to unprecedented, extraordinary measures for a way out, Axios' Zach Basu writes. ⚡ What's happening: Trump appears to be working on three escape hatches to keep himself out of prison. Delay trials until after the 2024 election, hoping he'll be president again and able to pardon himself. Count on friendly judges to steer things in his favor. Frame every defeat as political vendetta — and trust the Supreme Court will overturn any guilty verdicts. Zoom in: Delays are the first order of business for Trump's legal team. 🌴 In Miami, where Trump's classified documents trial is set for May, the former president's legal team is preparing to unleash a flurry of motions and challenges to slow-walk South Florida's "rocket docket." 🏛️ In Washington, Trump's lawyers have vowed to "re-litigate every single issue in the 2020 election" in a bid to prolong the discovery process and push the trial until after the 2024 election. 🏙️ In New York, where Trump is scheduled to go on trial in March, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is relying on an untested legal theory by charging state felonies related to federal campaign finance violations. There's a chance that a New York judge would toss the charges. 🥊 Reality check: Everything will need to go right for Trump to avoid a conviction in three — possibly four — courthouses in the next 15 months. Special counsel Jack Smith is determined to secure a speedy trial in both of his federal cases. The defenses Trump's lawyers have floated so far have been met with serious skepticism from legal experts. Read on.

Fun fact: Pedro Grifol was Al Avila's preferred candidate to replace Ron Gardenhire.

Depending on how you look at it, we are either the second-luckiest or second-clutchiest team in the American League. -
We’ll know for sure if Opus makes an appearance.

Too many Gen Zs I know have little idea of any difference between Trump and Biden. Or, more exactly, neither affects them or their daily lives, so why bother thinking about them?

If only we were anti-woke like Sweden …

Not surprising since they are on the front lines in Europe. Americans have always engaged in the hubris of believing we are beyond real danger due to the oceans that separate us.

Says the guy who took offense that I used the Jesus metaphor for Trump, and then turned around and called him Orange Jesus! 😉 😅 Anyhow, neither of us can be right or wrong about this yet, because it hasn’t happened yet.
