  1. Do they describe him as such? Maybe, although I haven't heard. In any event, I don't regard player comments to the press as being the most reliable barometers of news or truth.
  2. Harris doesn't seem like a guy who chases numbered prospects, so it might depend on whether he and Hinch believe Hernandez, or whomever they go after with Lange (if at all), has the right kind of skills they can optimize.
  3. I’m still not convinced he’s going to stay in baseball after he’s done, anyway. Feels to me he has an active, busy life outside the game, living the best life possible in Miami. He doesn’t strike me as a guy who lives to work.
  4. I know Avila paid lip service to modern thinking with more of a stat focus, at least for the short time he felt pressured to, but it was easy to see more than five years ago that they weren’t taking it seriously.
  5. Detroit has lost 65%of it is population?
  6. Depends. In a park with long fences, those homers might be outs. HR/FB is seen by many as a luck stat. In the meantime, the things he can control, mainly strikeouts and balls, he killed. So different people may take away different conclusions.
  7. Was it improved? Not sure, but either way, the bar is super low.
  8. If the Cubs are buying, they're gonna need bullpen help, so maybe Lange right back to them for Cristian Hernandez? Lange's a devil they know and they shouldn't need shortstop prospects for a while.
  9. Incompetence will out.
  10. Thanks for clarifying. I was hoping that you weren’t upset by my clunky first paragraph which I wondered was being misinterpreted as humble-bragging about how healthy I am or something like that. Obviously not what I meant, but sometimes it’s hard to see eggshells.
  11. @LaceyLou, I am interested in your perspective so I can understand why you disagree.
  12. I am starting to contemplate the idea that, if Cabrera does go into coaching or becomes a front office special assistant, he’s might do so with the Marlins instead of the Tigers, since he won a ring with them, and Miami is a city he loves which is populated with people who speak his language.
  13. Cheating or no cheating, this is a hell of a game.
  14. Two-run single with Cabrera to third! Take THAT, Jon Berti!
  15. Watched it again—Berti looked back to see where Short was, and he use his arms to help trip up Short! I guess it ain't cheatin' if you don't get caught, but, just ... wow. I've never seen anything similar before.
  16. Oh my god, Berti did a Reggie Jackson to Zach Short by lunging back into him during the rundown, and he got away with it!
  17. I'm not sure whether I'm alone on this one, but speaking only for myself, I'll be glad once the season ends to see the steady promotional drumbeat of Miguel Cabrera go completely away. I love what the guy did for us when he was great, but for the Tigers to keep bringing him up all day every day is to keep talking about the past, and I'm ready to move on from that past and into the future.

They have a modest manufacturing base and now they basically exist as a self-sustaining metro area. They have fewer people living in Alpena now than they did in 1890.

Alpena is the second-smallest TV market in the country. The reason it is even one at all is its remoteness.
  20. How the American healthcare system has become primarily a discount dispenser for healthy people. I went to the dermatologist for my annual. The list price of the visit was $175. The cost to me was $101. So basically, the $1,300/month we are paying for health insurance got me a 42% discount on the visit. Since our annual deductible is up into the five figures, only a major health issue will allow us to get our insurance company to pay for anything beyond a negotiated discount for medical services. The only real benefit of health insurance in America is as a hedge against really expensive diseases, and not even all of those qualify.

By way of comparison, the United States' HFI is 8.23.
