I think it is borderline cruel for the governing body of collegiate athletics to celebrate someone’s mistake like this. If the guy had hit a legit homer that would have been all right, but this? Not cool imho

I really hate how they are just going after the money now. They more than doubled the cost, reduced the functionality in key ways, and removed access to the other sports. Just this past year for the first time, instead of charging $80 flat, they charged $88.40, because sales tax I guess. But it’s still useful, so I’ll still subscribe, I guess.

In any event, because I believe Torkelson's sub-optimal numbers are almost all the result of bad luck, I'm not thinking any more about criticizing him for it than I would criticize a guy at the craps table for rolling snake eyes. Now, his defense, on the other hand ... 😉

I don't think Trump is ignorant and stupid and nothing else. He is an adult man who grew up in America surrounded by people with varying degrees of cultural literacy. I don't think he grew up so bubble-wrapped that he could never have heard of any of the things we've all heard of. Surely he'd heard of Pocahontas the Indian maiden before, if for no other reason then he saw a porno featuring the character. If anyone in America had ever heard of one and only one Indian woman's name, it's Pocahontas, just like if anyone ever heard of one Indian man's name, it's Tonto. And people have defintiely heard of Indian names, because this is America and if nothing else, we've all watched TV and movies, and Pocahontas is a big part of the whole Plymouth Rock/Thanksgiving story. I'd bet Trump came up with the nickname, and I don't happen to think it's particularly clever, which itself tracks.

Your posts about him the past couple weeks or so have shown frustration that he has not turned his process into results, which is fair, but I also seem to recall you kept leaving it there, without saying you expect the luck to turn around, which struck me as your bottom-line assessment on Torkelson: all process, no results, which would mean failure. Glad you clarified that here. Sorry for jumping the gun on that.

I agree with this, and I also think that at 674 career plate appearances, TORK! is still a long, long way from giving up on him because of outcomes based on bad luck.
