  2. I wonder whether Chuck Hughes went down with the same thing fifty-some years ago?
  3. Brian Anderson is a gimpy whifftastic hitter with doubles power who a bad defensive year last year. So, basically, a less healthy Jeimer. He could probably recover defensively, but that 90 wRC+ is probably what he's going to give whomever signs him.
  4. Segura is the latest in a series of infielders that have also been connected to the Tigers. The club also had reported interest in Adam Frazier who has now signed with the Orioles and Wil Myers who will be with the Reds in 2023. Brian Andersonwas also listed among their targets, who is still available. Now that the Tigers have missed on Segura, Myers and Frazier, they could circle back to Anderson, or look to other free agent infielders such as Josh Harrison, Donovan Solano or Rougned Odor. None of those players will likely break the bank and the Tigers should have a bit of payroll wiggle room. They are currently at $124MM, per the calculations of Roster Resource, south of the $135MM Opening Day figure they had last year, per Cot’s Baseball Contracts. It seems like no one who has literally any other options (C’mon, Reds? Jesus …) wants to come to Detroit. We will probably have to overpay substantially to get any of the remaining guys.
  5. I hurt my knee in a softball mishap in June and had to shut down for the season. I saw an orthopedist who said if I want to play next year I have to strengthen my legs considerably. I had allowed my legs to go to pot when I got equipment at home so now to get them in shape, I had to join a gym. It’s the first time since 2002 I’ve belonged to a gym. I had gone pretty regularly since the late 80s up to then. There always were machine or weight hogs who would sit and monopolize them in between sets. If I asked to work in with them it was a 50-50 proposition between “sure”, and some combination of “I only got x more sets”, “I’m holding it for a friend”, and “no”. Either way, I’d go somewhere else, come back in five or so minutes, and they’d be off. But now that it’s 2022, there’s a new wrinkle to the whole thing: now when they are commandeering the equipment without using it, people are on their phones, which are very addicting and time sucking. So instead of hogging the equipment for a couple minutes in between sets as before, it’s now five or ten minutes. I have seen when someone at a popular machine was sitting on it diddling with their phone, I left for another part of the gym to do other stuff, came back to the machine some 15 minutes later, and they are in the exact same place doing the exact same thing. At least recently when I’ve asked to work in, they haven’t flat out said “no”. So maybe that’s an improvement.
  6. I want to transfer cash into my account.
  7. I can't transfer funds into my Paypal account.
  8. I had to post the above as an image because every time I tried to post it with text, it failed to post. I've seen this problem before—it's a rogue word that I have to identify and remove. It happened on the old board, too. So I have to break down the post one paragraph at a time, editing the post over and over, until I see this: Then when I remove the offending word and replace it with something else, it usually works. Although, this time, even when I did remove the word, I still got that dialogue box, which means there is at least one more offending word. So I gave up and just pasted it into Notepad and pasted the image here. That's why it's an image.
  9. Ick. No.
  10. Vikings were playing more for January 15 than for January 1.
  11. And the Tigers had more starting pitching last year than just about anyone!
  12. Apropos of nothing, I would look at that handle and think, “nine and a third cats”.
  13. Always nice to score a touchdown without kissing the ground.
  14. I just rewatched My Cousin Vinny for the first time in maybe five or six years and was reminded why it is one of my top ten movies ever. First of all, this particular fish out of water concept is just gold. New Yorkers cluelessly making their way around Alabama is ripe with comic possibilities that the movie mines terrifically, if not exactly flawlessly. The courtroom scenes constitute a master class of just how criminal trials work. My understanding is that some beginning law classes actually assign the movie to students to closely watch for how such concepts as discovery and voir dire and cross-examination operate in practice. It’s pure genius how seamlessly and entertainingly they weave these concepts into the story, never bogging the story down with them. Marisa Tomei, as Mona Lisa Vito, just oozes sex in every scene of the movie, but especially in the hotel room scenes, when she’s dressed down, and in the final courtroom scene, when she is on the stand showing off her smarts. To me, hers is the single sexiest performance of any actress I have ever seen in any movie in my life. I simply cannot take my eyes off her whenever she’s on the screen. Lastly, and not leastly, they never ruined it all by making some terrible My Cousin Vinny 2. The movie caught lightning in a bottle in the most unexpected and delightful way.
  15. I saw Alice at Joe Louis in the late 1980s. I don’t know what I expected, but I was surprised by how energetic they were. I remember their guitarist looked like Rambo, long hair and headband and muscles and everything. I also remember watching two girls who had been a few rows ahead of us approach the mixing board after the show and chat up the sound guy for a minute, the guy pointed them toward the stage, they walked over where they were helped up by a roadie, they all disappeared backstage, and then I left. Rock and roll, man.
  16. Harold is a career sub-replacement player. Hard pass. Man, are expectations ever low among Tiger fans. Thanks, Al.
  17. Expectations of Best Buy clearly too high …
  18. Speaking only for myself, I became a big fan of Alice Cooper in seventh grade, based only on hearing the songs on the radio. TV almost never played any hard rock back then, so there was no way I would have seen the schtick. I probably saw a couple of pictures in Creem or Circus, but I’ve always hated scary movies, so that wouldn’t have attracted me anyway.
  19. Robert Plant sure gave it his best shot here …
  20. “Well what he said was true! What was he supposed to say! This is cancel culture to the extreme! What about the First Amendment! Our country is so divided it will not be resolved peacefully and I stand fully ready to defend the Constitution! Hunter Biden’s laptop!”
  21. The clip is weird because it makes it sound like Hahn is calling the Sun Bowl between UCLA and Pittsburgh, and I’m thinking, why is the guy who calls North Carolina State football on radio calling the bowl game between UCLA and Pittsburgh? But one news story I saw spooled out the whole sentence as, “One other bowl game involving an ACC team going on, that's the Sun Bowl, and amongst all the illegal aliens down in El Paso, it's UCLA 14 and Pittsburgh 6 …”
  22. But her emails!!
  23. That’s my hypothesis based in part on my reading of the articles I’ve posted. I accept that no one here is with me on that.
  24. I think Baez and Rodriguez didn't get offers from anyone else even close to what they got from us.
