I have a similar relationship like that with several restaurants here in Big Shoulders, and they all know me as John Smith, because my real first name sounds like two or three other real first names and they frequently get it wrong; and even worse, they frequently ask me to spell my very long real last name for the order. But nobody can screw up John Smith, and anyone who does, you might not want to trust them to make your food.

You could reasonably say Lange is still developing, but on the other hand, he is 27 years old now, so, not sure how much more future we can expect to develop in him. Plus, as we all know, relievers are notoriously flaky from year to year, so it shouldn't be a surprise if this season ends up being the high point of his career.

That really the crux of this biscuit. I don't think Lange deserves the most criticism for the loss. I think lack of offense is the culprit in general. That's a shame because who knows how good this particular staff would look with even an average offense. But we are still dealing with what is mostly the dregs left over from the previous regime. It was never going to be all fixed by now.

Disagree. I believe this was a game we really needed to win, so I agree with managing for today rather than managing for the season. In a case like that, you bring in your best man in your highest-leverage situation, and leverage does not get any higher than this. I don't believe this was the time for Tony La Russa-style push-button bullpen management, where the "closer" comes in only in a save situation. It just so happened it didn't work out this time. I don't think today hurts Lange's trade value, if he's made available on the block.

Remember, too, that we are at less than full strength. The only guy the White Sox have on the IL is JImmy Lambert. We, on the other hand, have Eduardo Rodriguez and Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize and Matt Manning and Spencer Turnbull and Riley Greene and Matt Vierling and Kerry Carpenter and Austin Meadows all unavailable and not playing for us. If we had most of those guys with us on the team, we'd probably be in a better position to take this series.

Yeah, I think I'd be a little surprised if his preparation were all that much more than showing up and being the best Craig Monroe he can be. Maybe a glance at a prepped sheet, or perhaps game notes with key facts highlighted by interns.
