Listening to yesterday‘s game in the car Dan Dickerson related briefly the story about Willie Horton making his way his way to the Pirates clubhouse to congratulate Don Kelly. The Tigers great paying his respects to a beloved role player. Both men of the cloth.
As much as these baseball clubs follow the fault lines of soulless corporate entities like any other, the Tigers still maintain this affecting human dimension among the men who are part of the lineage of the team.
I suppose all teams do this, but the Tigers are the only team I follow closely and when I sense this knit of identity between former players or hear about, it brings me joy. As remote as I am from all of it, I somehow feel included.
