  1. The Yankees have lost seven of their last 10 and the Mets nine of their last 10. It’s odd that both teams should be faltering at the same time.
  2. Someone with a garden hose that’s a part of the grounds crew is spraying water on the crowd.
  3. Since I’m hard up for entertainment - apparently - I’m watching the Orioles play the Rangers in Baltimore on this Monday off day for our club and it’s 101° and it feels like 109°. Sweet. Marcus Semien K’d in his first at bat.. forgive me for being childish, but I am hard up for entertainment The Orioles announcer said that from the opening day roster almost half of those players have been on the IL. And Orioles players said they don’t expect anyone to feel sorry for them because they have been pretty dominant the previous two years.
  4. So, in the next three games with the Athletics at home, it’s Skubal then Flaherty then TBD. I’m getting gun shy about this “opener“ thing.
  5. Every time I see Riley bang into the outfield wall or make a diving catch and skid on the grass, I hold my breath because of his past injury history. Lately, when all the other cylinders on the club were seemingly misfiring, his was not.
  6. For all the recent missteps and setbacks of which we are all well aware, the Tigers still have the best record in all of baseball by one game better than the Dodgers. Other teams as well are not firing on all cylinders. This is no reason to bump up the bass and go cruising, but we’re not the only team that’s imperfect and the Tigers have good leadership on the field and in the front office.
  7. In doubt never or something to that effect
  8. If TB can score 9 runs in the bottom of the ninth to win then God bless them.
  9. Wow, when it rains, it pours both literally and figuratively eight runs cool.
  10. When is the funeral for Casey Mize scheduled?
  11. Wenceel Pérez homers 3-1.
  12. ♬ Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again♬
  13. Can’t expect Riley to carry this club on his shoulders alone.
  14. note to self> don’t rely on the fielding to save you today Casey.
  15. note to self> stop hitting weak grounders or lining the ball sharply to an infielder or outfielder.
  16. Dillon Dingler singles on a line drive to right fielder Josh Lowe. Riley Greene scores.
  17. The Rays must be scratching their heads going “where’s our four run first inning?”
  18. I can’t see Harris literally selling the farm for any pitcher when their health is so volatile these days. His philosophy is not “win once now and damn the future consequences.” His whole thing is about building a sustainable organization from top to bottom. You don’t do that by decimating the foundation.
  19. Listening to yesterday‘s game in the car Dan Dickerson related briefly the story about Willie Horton making his way his way to the Pirates clubhouse to congratulate Don Kelly. The Tigers great paying his respects to a beloved role player. Both men of the cloth. As much as these baseball clubs follow the fault lines of soulless corporate entities like any other, the Tigers still maintain this affecting human dimension among the men who are part of the lineage of the team. I suppose all teams do this, but the Tigers are the only team I follow closely and when I sense this knit of identity between former players or hear about, it brings me joy. As remote as I am from all of it, I somehow feel included.
  20. I’m glad this game was not the fulcrum on which my day rested, as it often is, but it still still sucks.
  21. On the plus side, the team ERA did not take a beating.
  22. OMG! After my morning walk, I was driving home and I listened to the Tigers top of the first and then started listening to John Mulaney and just now got home and we’re already down by four runs? This is déjà vu all over again.
  23. Did Jack Flaherty talk to the media after the game?
