RISK is one of those games I loved when I was a teenager, but whenever I’ve tried it as an adult, I’ve thought, man, do I really have time for this?

for a couple of years I worked in an office with only other engineers and 100% of lunch hours were either playing Risk or Bridge. It's been too long to remember the details but IIRC we had made some custom rules for Risk. We had the board set up in an empty work area and the biggest risk to Risk was that house keeping would decide to clean in that room.

That sent me down a rabbit hole.

Me and my very nerdy crew used to go to the Michigan gaming convention every year when I was a teen.  The events were D&D, miniature wargaming, board games and there were symposium of speakers talking about gaming world topics.  They had all sorts of vendors.   I had at least one friend who decided to opt out of the nerd track in life used to complain about the smell of the gamers.  I actually thought I was going to design games for a career path at one point.

That was the stuff my Air Force recruiter used to decide which career field I should go into I guess.
