Justice Carroccia says: “I do not find the evidence of E.M. to be either credible or reliable.” She finds that consent was not vitiated by fear. As the judge says these words, members of the accused players’ families have broken down in tears.

Justice Maria Carroccia says that “with respect to the charges before this court, having found that I cannot rely upon the evidence of E.M.… I conclude that the Crown cannot meet its onus on any of the counts before me.”

It is already extremely tough to get convictions in these cases and it seems like the prosecution did a horrible job on top of that. I'm not looking forward to the online discourse surrounding this now, that's for sure.

Effectively, in that they're middling talents at best except for Carter Hart so why should an NHL team take on that baggage. But the fact that the decision was by a (female) judge not a jury and that the judge obliterated the complainant may give an NHL team enough cover to sign Hart.

For what it’s worth, Dom L. doesn’t have any Red Wings contract in his list of 15 worst contracts.

he also had lucas raymond's deal as one of the best.

Yes, I think the whole narrative that Yzerman has failed at pro scouting and that he has thrown out a bunch of bad free-agent contracts is way over blown. He paid people what he needed to pay them to fill out a roster that did not have league average talent. He signed them for terms that would fill up roster spots until his draft talent was ready. And he has his three key franchise pieces locked up to long-term deals that are now a bargain. He should be able to go into the next two off-seasons in a good position to sign one or two key free agents to supplement a competitive roster.

i largely agree.  however, the one issue i have is that with the cap rising, EVERYONE will be able to hand out free agent contracts.  and as we've seen this year (and last), detroit is not a destination and wont be until they start winning.

its all about the draft classes.

but then again, it really was always about the draft classes.  there is no quick rebuild in the nhl without generational talents.  even then sometimes you end up as the blackhawks.
