I disagree. I don't think it was a disaster. They played 'em tough. The game was never out of reach for the Wings and the Caps are a much better team. Can't win them all. And intelligent pacing is important in a hockey game and I think the way they opened the game dominating the play but unable to score led them to overextend themselves early and they got caught a little gassed when the Caps turned it on themselves later in the period and they couldn't answer. Once they were up by two the Caps bolted it down. Call it being rope-a-doped by a more experienced (and better overall) team.
