Fascinating to see how this crowd operates.

Again, think there's this tendency to view these guys as all being evil geniuses, but they really aren't... it's a party built on feeding the ego of an aging 80 year old narcissist. There's no other logic to it than that.

First of all the White House should have no control over the WCA Dinner. This event is sponsored by the White House Correspondence Association. The President is a guest (as are all other extemporizes hangers on who attend these function. (and paid the price to attend).

It is up to the White House and Secret Service to provide security for the President (and I assume his party). Having spent a bit of time around these huge convention type hotels, it's impossible to shut them down completely for one event. That said the fact the guy didn't get past the main checkpoint proves that security worked  Saturday night despite MAGA talking points.

It's crazy that any of this even has to be said.... but when you have a media and political ecosystem built around treating this guy as if he's a normal President and not an aging 80 year old narcissist who is increasingly losing his fastball, this is what you get.

Old enough to remember when they hounded Biden for not going out in public enough...

He needs a ready-made excuse to not go too far, other than not having the energy.

It doesn’t take any evil genius to fake an assassination. All they have to do is follow the playbook given them by their benefactors.

It also doesn’t take any level of evil genius to use stupid **** like this to detract from the really awful **** they do that hurts real people but doesn’t get reported on properly because everyone is focused on stupid **** like this.

He gets his ballroom and he’ll never have to go out and sully himself by having to be around the Great Unwashed ever again.

Real populist Man of the People ****.

Maybe Dana Bash can ask Senator Scott to "tone down the rhetoric"

Yup, this was always the direction they’ve wanted to go in. All they need is the right match to ignite the gasoline.

They've been saying variations of this **** for 10 years now.... and they still sound like a bunch of weirdos every time they say it.

They sure do. But then, the Nazis sounded like a bunch of weirdos for their first ten years, too.

Your point is... what exactly?

Ridiculing these guys as a bunch of weirdos isn't a downplay of a threat that they present. But they're also deeply despised right now in the broader culture, much more than they were in November 2024. And they oughtta be treated accordingly.

The right hates the left and thinks it is dangerous.  The left hates the right and thinks it is dangerous.  This is a perfect scenario for The Big Club and the politicians which support it.

I'm sorry, but treating the current breakdown in American political culture and the violent undertones of it as being completely symmetrical is a bunch of hooey. There is one party that is led by a leader that sicced a mob on the capitol, there is one party that is led by a leader that blanket pardoned all of the people involved, has legitimized groups like the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, etc.

I understand the tendency to want to see things from both sides and all.... but on this particular subject, it's wildly asymmetrical and oughtta be treated as such. And the fact that we treat "both sides" as if they are "the same" on this only emboldens more bad behavior.

LOL, studies have shown that the right is more violent, but you can't deny that us versus them among lower classes is exactly what The Big Club wants.

I think The Big Club would much more prefer it if those who disapproved of Donald Trump would just shut up about it.

I am less impressed with the A Pox On Both Their Houses position than ever before. Not only is it wholly inaccurate at those time, it actually lets the right off the hook for their obvious iniquity by equivocating the left to the same degree.

1000%. Tired of having to pretend that the behavior observed out of both sides of the political spectrum with my own eyes and ears are the same. It just isn't.

What they don't want is for everybody to start pointing fingers at them instead.

Given the fact that people are increasingly pointing fingers at them and are identifying them with Trump and his administration, my point stands.

It's not the same, but I think the left cried wolf too many times and now that we have a real problem, not enough people take it seriously.  They think it's still Clinton vs Bush.

I think the public takes it more seriously than you think (he's getting -25 to -30 polls for a reason). But The Big Club wields a big stick in his favor, and they would prefer that all the people who disapprove of this President would all just shut up about it.

Sure, they don't like him, but the disapproval rating of congress is even worse.  A lot worse.  They don't trust anybody.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/1600/congress-public.aspx

Congress has been disapproved of more than every President in every year that I've been alive.

My point still stands. He's widely despised in the broader public, and The Big Club that you speak of, the guys like Bezos and Cook and Musk, would all prefer that he weren't. They would all prefer that we all hold our tongues, withhold any donations, not volunteer, not engage in any political activism, and not vote.
