I realize this guy has no insider info and is just thinking out loud.  But I'm burning the place down if they trade Stew for Vucevic.

no way detroit does that.

Sort of makes me think the Monk trade was never a thing.  The entire reason to do a S&T with Monk was to retain the MLE.  Using their TPE does that, so they never needed to move Monk.  Either way, fantastic news that we are not getting Monk.

Also shows how little value 2nd round picks have.  They gave one up just to get a TPE that odds say they won't use.

Some TPE rules:

  • One year from the date it was created to use it
  • They can add $14.8 million in salary even if they are over the cap without sending anything else out
  • Can be used on free agents or for trades
  • It can not be combined with anything else.  So you can't trade Ivey + the TPE to bring back a bigger salary.
  • It can be broken up to use on multiple players if their combined salary is under the TPE amount

I wonder if they have a feeling on Beasley getting clear of his charges and are creating this for him.

Could be a heavily protected 2nd. That way you don't really give up anything. You just have to include something in order to make the trade.

That makes more sense.  Asking them for a pick to cover the one we had to send out is only right.  We are doing them a big favor by doing the S&T.  Although, Charlotte will be bad next year and we probably wont end up getting the pick.

One Herb Jones, please.   Washington would be OK as well, but Dallas will want a 1st round pick in return I would guess.

I suppose the Pistons could use the TPE on LeVert and keep the MLE.  Not sure if that benefits them more or not.

Bradley Beal is terrible for what his contract was but would he be that bad for us if it was on the cheap? Still shoots 40% from deep on catch and shoots so theoretically it seems like he could be beneficiary for us there.

Not sure Beal can score enough to make up for how many points he will allow on defense.

We are also pretty guard heavy.  The only guard I would be looking to add now is a guy who can fill backup PG minutes.

Herb Jones is a guy I would target.  6'8" and could back up both SF/PF positions.  Offense isn't much to write home about, but he did shoot 41% from three two years ago.  He is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league.  1st team all defense two years ago and finished 5th in DPOY.  The 4 guys in front of him were all bigs.  Him and Ausar together would be a nightmare for other teams.

There are zero reasons for New Orleans to trade him.  But it's Joe and Troy, give it a shot and see what happens.  I would give up a heavily protected 1st to land him.  Lottery protected next year and 2027.  Turns into two 2nd round picks in 2028 if it didn't already convey.

its joe and troy youre talking about.  they dont think about abstract notions like "accumulating assets" and "future flexibility".  no sir, those are nerd concepts.  theyre about winning now.  and winning now means one thing: a big man who can rebound!

offer them duren and they'll give you herb jones and THEIR #1 pick.  maybe even two if you catch them in the right mood.

I would be all over trying to get Herb Jones. Add in Ron Holland to this trade package.

Jones is the best version of what we could hope Holland turns into. And I'd take that bet on Jones' offensive potential...

PS: Is NO interested in getting cap savings at all? Change your lottery-protected pick into NOT lottery-protected OR into three 2nds... They would be a definite YES on the 1st rounder + Holland? WE would prefer Holland + three 2nds... Does Holland + three 2nds get a yes from the Pelicans?

PS: I'll take a big swing at that...

Detroit sends Ron Holland, Marcus Sasser, unprotected 1st and two 2nds to the Pelicans for:

Pelicans send Jose Alvarado and Herb Jones to Detroit.

that's a huge overpay, imo.

I don't know...

Sasser is not worth much if Alvarado is a better PG (both defensive and play-making and assist-to-turnover ratio) and Chaz Lanier turns out to be a better SG/ 3-pt shooter... which I think he is. Or will be...

Holland becomes superfluous with Herb Jones.

So I think we're trading extra parts... IMO.

The first rounder hopefully for the next several years will be in the 20's... so, hopefully, no lottery protection required.

And 2nd rounders are "fungible".

The biggest bet is on Alvarado being good enough as the backup PG.

I don't think we could ask/get a backup big in the deal (sure, I would love to add Missi... and give them Paul Reed!!!)

But I don't think that's happening.

There might be some overpay in there... but I don't think it's huge.

I like the idea of adding Alvarado, but the Pelicans can't really trade him right now.  Murray ruptured his Achilles at the end of January, so he is basically out all of this coming season.  That leaves Alvarado and Fears as their two PG's and Fears is a rookie.  Like the idea though.

If you want to get crazy and start tossing around unprotected picks, I got one for you.

If I'm NO I say no all day long.  So not sure why I'm posting it.  Also, don't know a darn thing about that Matkovic guy.  Just needed him to make the salary work.  Both 1st round picks would be unprotected.

Another version of this deal, since I think NO would say no.  Remove Harris for Detroit, and remove Jones and Matktovic for NO.  Same draft picks.
