Not sure I agree. TBF, Jack has gone 1-2-3 in 4 of  5 innings, including previous inning, and pitch count was reasonable. I wasn’t watching though, so I don’t know how his stuff is was playing.

Or do you let him start the inning but pull him before he pitches to India? That's one of the big shifts in the game brought about by the 3 hitter rule and more generally by the increased load on bullpens. Back in the day you'd have two relievers up and ready in the 6th, and in that scenario Jack isn't pitching to India after giving up the 1st hit of the inning. But Hinch doesn't have a RH reliever to burn on just India, Holton was prepping for Isbel, Hinch didn't want Holton against India. And in general everybody is more reluctant to burn up their relievers in the bullpen just being ready if you don't absolutely have to because you are most definitely not going to get a complete game the next day.

When you follow every game as closely as some of us do, the alternating swings between elation and despair are pretty intense.

I’m all for the elation part but the despair not so much. Stuff like this happens and sometimes it just best to move on to the next series. Would’ve could’ve should’ve. If any lessons have been learned the right people have learned them.

Reminds me of the Simpson episode with Darryl Strawberry.  Then he pinch hits for him in the 9th because the pitcher was left handed.

Yeah, you defined the decision point and the other variables very well. In hindsight it may seem  AJ was greedy sending him out for the 6th at all, but in the moment, I agreed. It’s just, when do you pull him, and that comes with a lot of other variables.
