Jason_R Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Three targets and three defenders clustered in a 5 yard by 5 yard box. They have a new offensive coordinator. Does this mean they have to throw out the playbook and start from scratch? I can’t tell from the outside, but this seems like what they did. They had the best offense in the league last year. Keep at least 80% of what you did and tweak the other 20%. Quote
GalagaGuy Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Looking at the game stats, Jake Bates had more tackles than Hutch. 😬 Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 When he’s been asked about playing in the preseason before, Campbell has pointed to the joint practices as a controlled substitute for the preseason games. I think it’s fair to say Miami and Houston may not have been equivalent to Green Bay. Last year we had the Giants in town, and it was memorably chippy. I’m glad people seem to be coming back off from the edge though. The panic yesterday (not just here, everywhere) was a little absurd. Are there things that need corrected, absolutely, it would have been weirder if there weren’t. But I promise the future HOFers on this team did not forget how to play football. They’ve started 1-1 each of the last three years, with sloppy losses to the Eagles, Seahawks, and Bucs. They get Chicago on a short week at home now with an opportunity to do the same. The sky is not falling. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Serious question; how many times did the Lions blitz? Quote
Jason_R Posted September 8 Posted September 8 From J-Rog. I guess I don’t understand how much more needed to be put on the plates of the NFL’s best offense. Yes, you have a new IOL, but two of the three of them have been taking backup reps in practice for a full season. Give them the old offense and let them execute it Quote

Give them the old offense and let them execute it I think the old offense was just a big set of ingredients that was cooked up by the old OC week-to-week. They could try running the same plays from the same formations I suppose, but that will get you crushed in the NFL. The key is have the right plays at the right time more often than not and to hide what you are doing. Thats not something you can just borrow. You have to know it. Maybe Morton doesn’t? Maybe it was just one game and adjustments will be made. Maybe, as said earlier, the coordinators will get fired mid-season. Either way this game was a disaster. Quote

Also what will get you crushed in the NFL is what they did yesterday. They have started slow in the past and demonstrated their ability to adapt over the season, and I assume they will do the same, but the way Dan was talking sounded like they were starting from ground zero. It doesn’t make sense. Quote
TP_Fan Posted September 9 Posted September 9 So what does the season look like if they lose to the bears? We would be 0-2 and then the schedule is as follows: @ravens, vs browns, @bengals, @chiefs, vs bucs, vs Vikings, @commanders, @eagles. Lose to the bears and this team could be 2-8 after week 10 pretty easily. And that’s saying they’d beat the browns and Vikings. Lose to the bears and all confidence is gone heading into the toughest schedule in the league. It really is win or season over. Either way, 3-7, 2-8 seem way more likely than 6-4 after 10 games. What was your preseason record prediction, before a single road loss to a good divisional rival? Quote
Motown Bombers Posted September 9 Posted September 9 The Bengals had something like 7 yards in the entire second half against Cleveland but apparently the sky isn't falling for them. Quote

romad1 Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Feeling much better about John Morton now that Carlos Monarrez has given him the kiss of dumb. 1 Quote
