I actually think Schwartz has a really good football mind, very similar to Campbell. His issues were emotional regulation in my opinion. That is not something Campbell suffers from and that was the only comparison I was trying to make. In retrospect I see now that I was only speaking of a coach being great in one role and not so much at the next level when referring to Schwartz. The Campbell comparisons was not mine after all. That’s how out of it I was yesterday. Ha! Just ignore me. Quote

I’m the type to pretty actively avoid confrontation in those situations, but nobody even approached me negatively. When Jake Browning is your QB and the spread is double digits, they knew what they were dealing with coming in. Some of them were even like “you know it’s not as ugly as I expected it might be” That lady next to me and the guy behind her were actually pretty obnoxious. Unfortunately they were Lions fans. The Bengals fans on the whole were great. 1 Quote

I read a story around that that said Coen has a short fuse. That is very much what I think Schwartz suffered from and like Schwartz it can actually work short term. The issue is it breeds a style similar to what has been said above, reckless, undisciplined, etc. That’s not something you want creeping into the culture. So Coen is probably Schwartz Jr. They both somewhat resemble Campbell, but are missing that pure leadership. I didnt think about that incident but it’s another parallel. Rob Saleh interviewed for both jobs and was beaten out by Campbell & Coen because they interviewed better even though he had the more accomplished resume. I also look back at that first year MCDC and think he would’ve done the exact same thing Coen did if a guy who he beat out for the job started talking nonsense to the press insinuating that he was cheating. The tact of waiting until after the game was over to say the first thing about it indicates Coen doesn’t have a short fuse. That would’ve been the case had he gotten into some back and forth throug the press before the game after Saleh took his initial shot. Quote

I can’t find anything outside Shanahan saying he was too sensitive. The article I read implied he had a reputation around the league but now I’m thinking it must have been a one-off opinion. I don’t think Dan would look for a fight. He’d just say something hilarious and then circle that game forever going forward. Edited October 7 by sagnam Quote

They needed a blocked FG to beat a Rams team who hasn’t beaten anyone, and they almost blew it against Tampa. I mean if we are going to say the Lions were sloppy on a 24 point win and solid after hanging 52, do the same with the Eagles. Well, the talking heads seem to agree with you and not me. This of course means that I'm right because talking heads are always wrong, but... USA Today ESPN NFL Bleacher Report Even Packers Fan Tom Grossi They all have the Lions at #1. So far the only site I've found that agrees with me is SI... and given that SI is nothing but AI and clickbait these days, that's probably not an ally I want on my side. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) I get the argument about not beating anybody good but I also think in the NFL "style points" should mean something. The Lions don't just squeak by they dominate these teams, I don't care the who the team is in the NFL that simply doesn't happen on a regular basis unless you are an elite team unlike in college fb. I remember the 07 Pats used to do that and they are the last team that comes to mind that had as many lopsided affairs as we have on a regular basis. Also its not like this team has no track record, have the best record in football the past 2+ yrs with most of the same pieces so that should carry some weight. Edited October 8 by RandyMarsh 1 Quote
