Didn't watch but doesn't look like Giddey played, so not shocked.

giddey doesnt play defense either.

they gave up almost 130 points to the pistons bench.

And 111 to the full Pistons team.  It happens.

it happens a lot when you dont plat any defense and your big man cant protect the rim.  no one on the team can protect the rim.  no one can defend the perimeter either.

they can score.  that's it.

Their perimeter defense actually ranks top 10 in the league, higher than Detroit and OKC believe it or not.  But yeah, they could use a Stewart type player for sure.

Some speculation they might get involved with AD.  So they could have him helping with post defense 45 or 50 games a year.

zach lowe had the pistons 3/4 in the east so far.  behind my, cleveland, and maybe milwaukee.

he also said duren is a demon on defense now, so i'm not sure how much he watches our games.  am i missing something?  he still looks ponderous on the perimeter and too often is nailed to the ground at the basket.  i dont see them all that often, is he better?

of these potential trade acquisitions, which one would you take and what would you spend to get them?

zack lavine

lauri markkanen

anthony davis

ja morant

zion

trey murphy (just for del)

collin sexton

Lavine - No.  Not a coincidence Chicago has looked better after he was traded.

Markkanen and Davis - No.  Both talented, both will miss 40% of your games.

Morant - No for on and off court stuff

Zion - Yes, if he is cheap.  I mean, all I'm giving up is salary filler and a protected 1st rounder.  I will risk that on JB being able to get him to play hard consistently.  His contract is not guaranteed so you can cut him tomorrow at no cost other than the draft pick.  It's worth the risk.  But I think other teams will give up more.

Murphy - Yep

Sexton - On the fence here.  Undersized but can play the secondary ball handler and backup PG role.  Somewhat injury prone.  Salary filler and a protected first and I would probably consider it.

As far as Duren and his defense goes, no.  He started to look better when Ausar come back last year.  This year Harris is missing a bunch of time, so Duren gets to play next to Stew who covers a lot for Duren.

also PJ Washington or Rui Hachimura

trade picks and anyone but Cade, Thompson, Duran and Stew.

Hachimura and Duren together would be really poor on defense.  His outside shooting is intriguing, though.

PJ would be interesting.  But that would have to happen this summer.  He signed his extension late in the summer and isn't eligible to be traded until March, which is after the trade deadline.

IDK, I'm not that good an observer, He does still seem to spend a fair amount of time sort of in between deciding what he's supposed to defend, but OTOH, I have seen him do nice job bodying up a guy at least a couple times recently which I thought was a good sign. Maybe he's taking some lessons from Stew.

markkanen is exactly the type of player this team needs: a big who can space the floor and shoot.  i understand the concerns about health.

for all of those aquisitions the big concern is price.  markkanen is going to cost you all of your assets.  murphy theoretically would too but for the fact that joe dumars and troy weaver are running that show.  give paul reed a couple more big games and weaver will be offering you first round picks for him because, well, he's tall and gets rebounds.

sexton would be an upgrade on jenkins.  or they can just go get shroeder again, the kings are about to blow everything up yet again.

Utah needs to trade Markkenan yesterday.  He is good enough that he will win them a few extra games they have no business winning.  They need to stay in the top 8 to keep this year's 1st round pick.
