Mize is pitching in Lakeland tomorrow Feb. 25 against Toronto. There will be Tigers radio coverage with Dan and Dan.

And the Tigers will also be playing Philadelphia on the road and Madden will be the starting pitcher. There’s a Phillies feed for TV and the game can also be watched on MLBN.

I’m unfamiliar with MLBN broadcasts and I don’t know if they’ll just be broadcasting the Phillies feed or if it’s a completely different broadcast.

I’m “benefiting” from the new no blackout rule on MLB.TV so I can now watch the previously blacked out - for me -  Mariners broadcasts. Unfortunately, the camera work is reminiscent of a minor league broadcast. And the definition of the picture is terrible. The ads are a ton better in quality. I’m assuming that regular season broadcasts from the M’s will be up to par…

Just noticed that watching the Rockies feed, they do have the little strike zone box imposed on the screen. So previously, when the Braves announcers were saying that it wouldn’t be around until the regular season, I guess this might be up to the broadcasters of each individual team.

Yes, it's only spring training. And yes, it's a small sample size. And yes, some of these guys will never see a major league roster. All the caveats.

I still can't escape the fact that a team that struggled offensively through major stretches of last season did absolutely nothing to improve the offense and yet is somehow viewed as "all in" on this last season with Skubal.

i think there's a 70% chance this team is a mess offensively this season. And maybe they're able to overcome that to a degree thanks to how terrible the Central is. But come playoff time, they will get smoked.

It's only spring training, the hope is that they get in their work and stay healthy, don't try to draw any meaning or significance from the results of the games.

I'm not drawing meaning from these games. I drew meaning from their lack of improvement in the offseason and felt this way before spring training even started.

We just now have the benefit of seeing it play out on the field.

One way to look at today's loss is that none of those pitchers are likely to be on this team at any point this season.  

As far as the hitting goes.   Someone please wake up.   3 hits?   That's vomit-inducing.

I don't care they they are losing with players that aren't going to make the team, as longs as they don't get so obsessed with seeing every joe blow prospect in the system in a Spring game that the regulars don't get in enough competitive work and we end up behind the 8-ball before the team hits stride around Mid May. It's still plenty early though....

They have the WBC tournament this year, so we might see more minor leaguers playing in spring training than usual.

It will mostly likely be ok.  What is certain is that nothing that happens in the first week of spring training has any bearing on the season at all, unless someone gets hurt.

In Clark’s defense in the outfield today when I was a kid and subscribed to the Sporting News, I think it was 1965 or 66 I would pour over the box scores from spring exhibition games and there was one Cactus League game at the Cubs ballpark and the game was suspended because the sun was so damn bright it was dangerous for the players.

Strangest box score I ever saw. “Game suspended due to sun” or something like that.

are WBC guys prepping somewhere else? Seems it would be important that players going to WBC get some work in prior because you know there is a high probability guys will overdo it there.
