Way too many guys leave Detroit and look like different players.

way too many executives leave yzerman and do well.  verbeek.  brisebois.  yzerman returns to detroit and is now working only with former red wings he played with and the results are not so good.

We are facing, right now, in this game:

Brock Faber, RHD, 23, drafted 2nd round #45 (I didn't look up how Minny got this pick from LA...) in the 2020 draft. This is his 3rd full year in the NHL. 2 games, 82, 78, 77 this year (with today's game).

6' 1" 210 #'s, 51 points this year in 77 games (that includes this game)... +22.

We had (3) 2nd rounders that year and (2) 3rds (Lucas Raymond draft):

#32 William Wallinder, 51 Niederbach, 55 Cross Hanas, #63 (3rd round) Donovan Sebrango, 70 Eemil Viro...

Draft is a crapshoot, I know.... Just sayin'

LA drafted him while he was in college at Minnesota and traded him before he ever played in the NHL.  Trade was Faber and a 1st round pick for Kevin Fiala.   Minnesota used that pick to take Liam Ohgren, who was a piece in the recent Quinn Hughes trade.

Start a new rebuild with a new GM.   Go ahead and trade Larkin.  Trade Raymond.   Trade DeBrincat.   Just do it.  This team is as soft as it gets.   Every single year Larkin gets hurt in March and every single year this team falls apart because ONE guy goes down.

The Pistons lost a guy who is more important to them than Larkin is to the Wings and they step up.   Everyone elevates their game.  Everyone's intensity gets sharper.

Not the Wings.

Has it been a full decade now since their last playoff appearance?   In a league where HALF the teams make the playoffs?

Two years ago they missed on a tie breaker -- because they lost two midseason games to Phoenix, the worst team in the NHL at the time.

Soft.

They should fire McLellan tomorrow.

It’s not his fault but you can’t fire the players (or the GM).

Break the internet...Hire Patrick Roy

This is becoming all too obvious isn't it? Is Ilitch paying attention?

And by the way.   Why Talbot?    He's brutal.  He's been brutal all season.    What does Cossa have to do?          He was pathetic yesterday.   Yeah, I know the defense wasn't great, but at least 2 of those goals should never have happened.

Cossa hit a rough patch a little bit ago..he's been good his last couple of games.  Overall..this has been his best AHL season to date.

Scott wheeler just released his system rankings  Detroit is 4th overall...Cossa is the top prospect, Augustine is number 2...but it's really close between them

I found Wheeler's piece weird because he said, "He doesn’t have obvious starter talent or size, but I could see him getting there or at the very least becoming a solid, reliable tandem goalie," while also saying that he almost ranked him over Cossa.

Then he had Bear ranked over Danielson, MBN, and Finnie which had me wondering whether he is simply over-rating a prospect who has not yet shown himself in the NHL.

But the elephant in the room here is why it seems that prospects and veterans come to the Wings and struggle, or leave the Wings then flourish. There is too much of a culture of not making mistakes and not enough of a culture of playing with 100% effort on every shift.
