I'm going to be interested in following Moore's career.

He's phenomenal as a pass-rusher but needs to be coached up in the "setting-the-edge" department. I believe (from the scouting reports). Or maybe he just needs to add 10 pounds of muscle. Nearly (1/8" off) 6'4", 255 pounds (add 10 for 265)...

I think a Maxx Crosby 2.0 may be even beyond our expectations... Or does anyone else want to drink this koolaid?

The thought popped up in my head this morning... So what does everyone else think?

I'm going to pop this thread up to the top... every now and then... based on Derrick's career ups and downs...

The comparison that Lance Zuerline of NFL.com had for him in his scouting report was Bucaneers LB/Edge Yaya Diaby. Diaby is the same height as Moore, but has about 15lbs of muscle on Moore. He's only a 3rd year player himself and has had 2 seasons of 7+ sacks and 30+ pressures. If Moore averaged 7 sacks and 30+ pressures a year, I'd be fairly happy with that.

Yaya Diaby: 6'4" 270, decent but not great pass-rusher.

Maxx Crosby: 6'5" 255, nasty, aggressive mauler as a pass-rusher, not quite as good as an edge setter. Averages 10 sacks per year, 38 QB pressures per year, 3 passes defensed per year.

Derrick Moore: 6'4" 255, nasty, aggressive mauler as a pass-rusher, not quite as good as an edge setter. Had 10 sacks last year with UM in 12 games, and 41 QB pressures and 3 PD's.

Moore may not "become" Maxx Crosby 2.0... but I think his play "style" is far more similar to Crosby than anyone else. Including Diaby.

I'm placing my expectations on DM at Maxx Crosby 2.0.

Sorry if some people on here get upset by that.

Crosby has been to 5 straight pro-bowls, All Pro 3 times, and received DPOY top ten finishes twice. That is a pretty high bar for Moore. I watched a bunch of Michigan games and i don't think he ever really took over a game like Hutchinson or Graham did. I would expect a maybe 10-12 sack at his peek with decent run defense kind of player.

Why are we bringing Reggie White into this conversation?

He was a 6'5" 295 # monster of a DE.

Both Derrick Moore at 6'4" 255 and Maxx Crosby at 6'5" 255 do NOT resemble him at all.

Ridiculous.

Yeah but you have to put Moore on an NFL strength and conditioning program. 😉

In all seriousness, it is a bit outlandish to be putting Maxx Crosby expectations on Moore. Crosby outperformed his draft slot partly because he was physically and technically underdeveloped as a college player. Also, he had at least one known disciplinary issue that resulted in him being suspended for the season opener in 2018. How much of all of this was related to his substance abuse issues? How much value did the Raiders get buying low on him? Hard to tell.

Moore was good enough to get recruited to Michigan and to play every game as a freshman. He apparently thought he was not quite good enough to come out as a junior. But playing 50+ games at Michigan says you have a high floor, even if it leaves very few secrets or hope for untapped potential.
