meh - athletes don't 'owe' us anything. Don't forget, the implicit bargain when he signed long term was they would put a team that could win a cup on the ice -- they haven't come close and it's for a lot more reason than anything to do with Larkin. He doesn't owe them or us anything at this point. If he feels he has leverage to force a trade, I can't criticize that, even if I don't like it.

and "soft" my ass. After 10 years of being head hunted on a team that's never done **** to defend him? GIve me a break. If I were Dylan that would be reason enough to want out.

I didn't say he owed fans anything.

Soft your ass. The team is soft. He is the captain of a soft team that has melted down while on the hunt for the playoffs for three straight years. He whined that Stevie didn't do anything two years ago. Stevie did something last year and the team still wet the bed.

Larkin is a very good (not great) player, and I understand he went to the Olympics and got a taste for winning. He learned what we all suspected, that he is better suited to be a support player than a captain.

Hopefully there are a lot of teams that saw Vegas squeak in and Montreal make it to the Conference Finals and think that a guy like Larkin could put them over the hump. He is a good player on a great contract.

Whew, I thought those ideas were yours for a moment.

Take most of those ideas and chop them by 1/2 or 2/3 and that might be the types of return Larkin could yield.

How can you watch the Wings play and think Larkin is their problem being 'soft' he is more willing to mix it up, defend his mates and take on hard contact than any other forward other than maybe Cat. How many times did we hear Mac say there has to be more leadership in the room than just Larkin? He's been an example to his team, they don't pick up on it,  let him get beat to a pulp and skate back to the bench. That's not on Dylan, that's a bunch of lower character guys than he is, and he's not the one that put them on the team. His critics are right about one thing though, he should have told them to take the C back after the deadline argument last  season. Let Mac find someone else to be the team's patsy.

we were talking about 3 firsts for rob thomas.  larkin isnt that much worse than thomas, AND there is no one available in free agency.

i think this is the perfect time to trade him (other than 2 years ago).

yeah - at 10 yrs in he is a declining asset - after all the injuries he isn't player he was no matter what you thought that was.

Wings should definitely ask for comparable packages to the Robert Thomas ask.  Larkin is a little older and hasn't put up 80 points in his career before, and Rob Tom did it twice.  But I'd like to think that other GM's would be enticed by how he plays in the Olympics and think they can unlock something more with a better roster.  Yzerman should just read out all the puff piece quotes from the Olympics and sell them on what can be!

I think you’re right, I was too negative. Perfect time to trade him, but I wish we had a stronger centre behind him. Those trade ideas are bone fide and intriguing but some I know will be non-starters, like the Leafs won’t trade the #1 for him. San Jose has youth and good contracts, what would we need to add to Larkin to get the #2 overall - Cossa? I’d do that.
