Melton is facing the Ump - so he can see strike 3 was called. The whole thing was probably just because the Ump didn't call out the strike three loud enough to be heard - otherwise easy toss to 1st. Melton is facing the Ump - so he can see the batter is out. In fastpitch softball at the rec 12U and 14U levels the "DTS" is a huge part of the game. So, I've seen plenty of missed bases loaded situations where the dumbass girl catcher throws to first rather than slip the ball to the pitcher who can just touch home. But the catchers who do run the field like good catchers should; who do know the rules; and the percentages on short throws rather than trying to beat a runner to first, warm my heart.
