Within 24 hours you saw what was probably the best game of the season and the worst. Hello, 2026 Tigers! Quote
lordstanley Posted July 30 Posted July 30 It's feeling like the 2025 Lions. Talented, probably the best team in the division, but something just feels off and this isn't the year. Trade at the deadline, do some winter signings, regroup, get back at them next season ... if there is a season. Quote

The OL in the case of the 2025 Lions was broken and this bullpen is broken and the weakness on offense never got fixed. Quote
antrat Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Well, that was quite the appropriate game to send off your best pitcher to the Dodgers. Quote

romad1 Posted July 30 Posted July 30 This team has blown 30 leads? https://www.freep.com/story/sports/columnists/jeff-seidel/2026/07/30/tarik-skubal-trade-detroit-tigers-rumors-aj-hinch/91096649007/ Quote And yet, it wasn’t really surprising in another. The Tigers have now blown 30 leads, which has been their Achilles' heel. I know that has to be true but its a suck sandwich. Fix that. Quote

Fix that. As a team they have 21 Saves and 25 Blown Saves. 🫠 Quote

There is only a small percentage of relievers who are consistently good fom year to year and with bullpens now pitching a third of the game and often more, that is putting a lot of randomness into the game. Throw in the ridiculous number of injuries to pitchers now and that just adds to the randomnness. How do you build a good bullpen? The Tigers bullpen in the early years of Hinch was a bunch of no names, much of it plucked off the waiver wire and they did fine. Hinch and Fetter looked liked geniuses. Now, it looks like they know nothing. Also, I wasn't trying to blame the Tigers really for any of this. Just explaining how +/- for runs has some value, it just can't be an end-all argument that a team "is clearly better" or "clearly worse" due to the "luck" factor. At least not as that season as it is happening and two-thirds over and a team is more than a week's worth of games away from being at least a .500 team. Your record is your record. And, yes, the pen has been awful. I mentioned that. But I wasn't picking apart "why the Tigers can't put together a good pen?" Just explaining why +/- really can't be used to suggest the Tigers are the second-best team in the AL or whatever someone wants to say due to it. Edited July 30 by DTroppens 1 Quote

It can't be erased from the record books. June and July also happened. May happened with a roster that looks very different from the current one. The current roster has played nearly .600 baseball for almost 9 weeks. If you are game planning against the Tigers do you game plan against the roster that existed in May or the one that exists now? This all hypothetical and doesn't really matter. But the fact is that one horrific month in which the roster was missing many key pieces capsized this season. I still firmly believe that this is a good team having a bad season. It happens, all the time. 1 2 Quote
