  2. Finnegan only threw 7 pitches last night, he should be available? Vest threw 22 pitches, probably unavailable. And Jansen (36) is definitely unavailable.
  3. Every Skubal start looks like a pitching mismatch. at least, on paper. Today's no different but...baseball.
  4. He's doing great. Remember when HW Bush posted during the 1992 election about how he was ambassador to the UN in 1970? Or, when Eisenhower bragged in 1957 about being on MacArthur's staff in the Philippines in 1935? Or, when Reagan bragged in 1981 about his time as SAG president in the late 1950s?
  5. The rest of the team waking up and finally hitting was the biggest factor, IMO.
  6. Teah but Shelton couldn't maintain it. 😉
  7. I would argue those bolded stats go back 50 years or more.
  8. He started batting leadoff on April 12 and stopped on May 23. He also batted cleanup during that stretch. I don’t think the switch out of leadoff in May was a substantial factor in their late August turnaround.
  9. But what i wonder is SCOTUS would even take it up? If they ruled Texas is allowed to rework their maps, wouldn't that set precedent? I just don't really understand if the vote by citizens of Virginia is going to be taken away. It seems unconstitutional.
  10. Oh, right, I wouldn’t want this particular Court to weigh in on it, either. I’m talking about SCOTUS’s role in this on a theoretical basis.
  11. Here is the breakdown. I believe most of the leadoff batting was in April.
  12. I think you are correct that if you generally just put your better hitters in the group at the top of the lineup and your worst near the bottom then overall it’s going to be ok. But I don’t think it’s true that it is worse to put one of your best hitters (or single best hitter however you define it) at leadoff vs third or cleanup (cleanup typically better for run producers because third hitters come up with bases empty more frequently due to batting third in the first inning). I agree that a leadoff hitter is not going to get as many RBI chances batting there. That’s not really disputable. But it’s also true that if you bat in the this spot that will score more runs by being good and getting on base and having those 2-3-4 guys drive you in. I think if you are good at both getting on base and slugging, you are going to be fine both leading off or batting cleanup. For 2024 Riley, he scored 23 runs when batting leadoff (139 PA). As cleanup hitter, he only scored 16 (173 PA). But he drove in 21 as cleanup and only 13 as leadoff. It’s a trade off.
  13. I don't want SCOTUS anywhere near this issue. I read the Virginia Supreme Court is conservative but one report i read said that it's a small c in conservative. Moderate conservatives? Is there even such a thing? 😆😆
  14. He batted in the leadoff spot in only 31 games in 2024? I thought it was more. How about another stat question? Did Hinch move him down in the order and then the Tigers got on that red hot streak? If so, maybe a coincidence? Or is lineup management really that important and makes such a huge impact?
  15. Glad I got my money back out of them.
  16. States do have to conduct elections in accordance with the Constitution, so in that sense SCOTUS does have some jurisdiction over interpreting what that means. If the State Supreme Court overturns the election without a strong enough constitutional basis, SCOTUS can overturn their decision. That’s how it’s supposed to work, anyway.
  17. Hate to quibble with Ron on this one, but Trump never said he was going to hire the “most qualified” people. He said he was going to hire “only the best” people. I think we now fully understand what he meant by that.

  19. Ok, my bad. Sorry. It looks like he did bat leadoff 31 times in 2024. I didn’t really visit this site much back then and admittedly don’t remember whether or not there was Riley leadoff discourse here or elsewhere two years ago. I do remember the Kerry leadoff talk recently. Happy to argue about it now, though. Wanna pretend it’s April 2024 again?
  20. Just checking in this morning to see whether the Islamic Republic of Iran has fallen yet. Can someone please text me when it happens? Thanks.

  22. Trump says he 'has to be careful' in rare health admission Not much of an admission. There are lot of people who wake up each morning hoping for the best news possible and then are sad until the next morning.
  23. Today
  24. Feels nice to say this unironically, isn’t it?
