I could be wrong, but I tend of think that if he were sick that we would have heard about that by now. Obviously that's not 100% certain, but I have to think his camp would be releasing that information. Heck it wouldn't be that hard to turn it into a positive: "We apologize for those who came to see Carter at his pro-day. Unfortunately Carter was suffering from a a bad illness. Many were urging him to not do the workout but Carter insisted, not wanting to let down those who had traveled to see him. He felt he could still provide a good showing but because of his sickness he wasn't able to perform nearly up to his normal standard."

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-considering-several-major-rule-changes-for-2023-touchbacks-could-be-modified-on-both-punts-and-kickoffs/ One of the rule changes is do what the XFL and apparently the USFL are doing with regards to an onside kick. Instead of the onside kick the proposal is a 4th and 15 or 4th and 20 from your own 25 yard line. If you convert, you keep the ball. Honestly, I think it's probably easier to do that than the onsides kick so I'd prefer to keep the onside kick.

I honestly think most people would be fine with them drafting Carter. I think most of us would assume that Holmes and Campbell feel they can get a good player out of him. Now, 2 years or so later we might be losing our minds and falling over ourselves with "I told you so" talk, but I think most reactions will relative tame. In fact, here's my reaction... I've pre-written my script: It surprises me that they do this. I'm worried that he isn't going to pan out in the NFL but I trust, at least right now, Holmes and Campbell. They've obviously done their homework and their getting paid millions to do the job... I'm just some guy behind a keyboard, so I hope they are right... But I reserve the right to say "I told you so" at a future date if needed.

I put in a prompt for an AI art generator: Lions and Tigers fighting. I think I'm gonna make this my avatar!

Yes please. I'd do that instantly. And with all those 1st round picks I might be tempted to grab Carter if he's available given we have enough insurance with other 1sts.

So, which ex-Lion ends up with more catches for the Giants: Galladay or Oruwariye?

And when has there been this good of a feeling about the Lions in terms of completeness of the team? When you don't know who the starter is at LT and you've got maybe two respectable WR and nobody but depth pieces as OLB with question marks at kick returner and Safety and maybe an over the hill RB... well, backup QB is pretty far down the list of priorities. But when you have some uncertainty at inside DL, low depth at LB, and are maybe a little lean in the WR room... well lack of QB depth starts to stand out a little more. I don't think there is a single fan here who doesn't think Goff did a great job last year. I don't think there's a single fan here who wouldn't be thrilled if he put up the same sort of year in 2023. I don't think there is a single fan here who thinks we need to ditch Goff in order to be successful for 2023. I think there are people who question is Goff will put up another 2022 year. Has he done it before? Yes. Has he also have poor years before? Yes. It's not crazy talk to wonder if Goff will repeat his success, and wondering about it doesn't mean we hate Goff. It's also not crazy talk to worry that Goff might get hurt. Prior to last year Stafford was a pretty reliable QB. He missed 8 games in the 11 seasons prior to 2022, and yet he still missed half of 2022. Football is a violent sport and season ending injuries happen. That's why you want depth. Wanting competent backup at QB is not hating on Goff. It's also not crazy talk to want an upgrade at QB. It's not crazy talk to want an upgrade at any position. Wanting another DE or another OL or another whomever is not saying that you hate the players currently in that position. It's reasonable to speculate what the team might to do upgrade now and to be ready for the future... especially with a team that looks on paper to have very few holes. This speculation is not hating on Goff.

I think you're mostly way over blowing what people are saying when they want to address backup QB. I think most people are saying it's an area that needs to be addressed but it isn't something that it's the most urgent thing in the world. Given that (at least on paper) the team seems to be pretty talented and with good depth in most areas, it's pretty natural to identify the areas where we may be in weaker shape depth-wise... like QB. Wanted to have a better backup is NOT an indictment of Goff anymore than people wanting to draft Anderson is saying that they don't like Hutch.

Not sure if I like the trade or not, but the price doesn't seem too high to me really. We're essentially trading two mid-second rounders to get a late 1st round pick, and then trading two early 6th round picks to get an early 5th round pick. I think I'd tend to want more picks for Holmes to work his magic, but I'd be tempted especially if they really like Washington.
-
I agree. If Character is not an issue (which as an outsider it seems like it very much is) then Carter is a perfect fit for the Lions need. He's talented enough to be worthy of a high pick and fits in a spot that the Lions need help with. Can't ask for more than that. But again... I worry seriously about his off the field stuff. Yes kids do stupid things, but his stupid things seem more stupid than normal. And not being in better shape for your pro-day after having to leave the Combine seems a big red flag.

What would life be like if we smelled with our fingers?

I love the opening by Don Meradith: "...well they [The Bears] haven't been able to pass the ball too well either. As a matter of fact last week against Washington Vince Evans, well he hit 12 out of 37 and you'd say that's not too good. Well the bad part is four of those he hit belonged to Washington." Ouch.

Is trading an option? Also, have we resigned Chark or gotten another WR free agent?
-
I remember that game very well. I was at my parents house watching it with many of my siblings. That's 4th and forever was amazing. I remember there was a big discussion after that game that even if Batch was healthy he should sit out against the Cards because it was going to be a cake wake against them. That was the game where the Lions scored a TD late and were down by 10 points. Bobby Ross went for 2 pts instead of kicking the extra point. If I recall correctly the Lions were in FG range at the end of the game but had to go for a TD because of the missed extra point.

RGB Bats to start with. -

I'm kinda sorta maybe leaning this way too. Obviously we don't know how the Lions are viewing the options here but it might be a possibility.
-
I wonder if this is active roster? Like, if he's injured and unable to play in a game, does he get the bonus? If not, might this be a not so subtle motivator to be ready?
-
Other than LB, is there any position where you really feel that the Lions are lacking talent? I mean, you can always upgrade any position of course, but is there really any area were you feel like we're below average beyond LB? I supposed you could say DT, TE, and WR (with Chark's status unknown)... but even those don't really feel like we're far below average if we are. Again, this is all on paper, but seriously I don't feel like there is any position where we NEED to draft a position or we'll be in poor shape.
-
So, by renegotiated does that mean he's taking less money? If they're just shifting money around it's it usually a restructured contract?
-
I think it's too early to say that the Secondary is a strength. They've certain added massive amounts of talent, but we need to know if it will all come together. Now, given what we know of Holmes and Campbell and how they are adding talent, I suspect that it will come together but I've been a Lions fan way too many years to assume that "on paper" will automatically translate to "on field" improvement. So, I'll go with the old Lions fans staple: I'm cautiously optimistic about the secondary.

I'm gonna say it's not air yards, unless the second column is reporting different information from the first. I don't think Josh Allen threw a 98 air yard pass.

I don't under the 2026-2028 years void part... if it's a three year deal, what does that have to do with 2026, 27, or 28?
