Thank goodness for Washington being Washington.

Nice cut by Green.

You’re jelly you didn’t drop it, yo.

Yes. Lucky for the Pistons they’re at home next few games, no travel.

The thing with promotion/relegation that gets me is basing competitive grouping and/or playoff odds on the previous season’s standings. That doesn’t compute to me. I don’t know if this is a decent analogy or not. But it’d be like taking last season’s group of five or six or whatever college playoff entry and bumping them into a power conference while knocking out a team from the conference in to the MAC or CUSA or wherever that promoted team came from. That’s silly to me.

6, 7?

Small sample size, but I liked Stewart and Duren starting together. But now that you mention Holland & Duren, I can see pairing Harris & Stewart together. Maybe those duos work well enough together to be viable against most other teams.
-
So 20 teams total or 40 teams total? Are they also suggesting the promotion/relegation foolishness?

I think Satchel Paige said that about Cool Papa Bell. It’s such a good line. And such a good nickname.

So what is this super league supposed to look like? Would the Purdues and Rutgers be invited to it? The Globetrotters didn’t win all of those games without the Washington Generals. I can’t see a league with only “blue bloods” knocking the snot out of each other every week.

I mentioned it in another thread. 65 years for this and penalties for other more harrowing crimes are a drop in the bucket by comparison.
-
But then how do you handle multi positional players? How does a guy like McKinstry get evaluated?
-
We’ll see if the gamble pays off for him.
-
Seems a bit asinine in comparison to other crimes, but that’s just my opinion.

Carpenter has a .606 OPS in 197 MLB PAs vs LHP over 4 seasons. Hardly seems conclusive enough to not use him lower in a starting lineup vs LHP. On the other hand, the versatility of the Tigers have allowed Hinch to deploy Carpenter as a PH vs RHP at different spots if/when needed.

The answer to all your questions is money.

Torres accepting the QO would indeed have a domino effect. I think the main result is how it affects McGonigle. I think trading from among the 2B types to acquire SP depth to stash in Toledo should be a priority. SP with options, maybe not necessarily top of the rotation prospects, but guys that aren’t going to be overmatched in 2026. I mean, if they can get future aces, have at it, but it seems unlikely by moving Keith, Jung, Lee, or Malloy, Anderson. The other thing is they need to have a plan to need overthrow Melton in 2026. I don’t know if that means the Tiger bullpen early on or slowly building stamina in Toledo to start the season. The problem with a season stamina progression in 2026 is it could get stalled in 2027.

This is why I stick to bicycle trails as much as possible when I bicycle. If I am on a road, I drive against traffic to see what I am in the lane with/next to. Sure, I understand bicycles have a right to be on the road. But I don't like the physics of it if/when there's a conflict of space.

That's something. So much to that play, so much complexity and variability from different angles. Given the circumstances, its got to be one of the most breathtaking and heartstopping plays I've ever seen. The defensive positioning, the lead off, the catch, the throw, the foot on/off/on the plate. Just amazing and fortunate to have the current day technology to see it from so many perspectives.

I don't know. Its a completely different world know.

This is why I wear shoes 1/2 size bigger than I need to, just in case.....

I don't think we'll see Bichette/Bregman/Tucker. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it. League averages last season: .315 OBP, 22.2% SO%, 8.4% BB%. Tigers last season: .316 OBP, 23.9% SO%, 8.4% BB%. Kim career: .324 OBP, 19.0% SO%, 10.2% BB%. He helps with the "control the strike zone" line that we heard Harris talk about. Granted, its a little apples to oranges comparing Kim's career to 2025 lines, but I think Kim's injury recovery in 2025 merit a longer term view for him. I understand some of his WAR might come from defense. To that point, what will be the defense of Bregman/Bichette towards the end of the contracts that they'll receive vs the end of Kim's contract? They'll have better bats, that's fine, not going to debate that. But the Tigers also have to consider other areas of the team to invest in.
-
I think the Tiger bullpen got the message.
-
Kim adds plate discipline, OBP, and base running at the top of the lineup and above average defensive ability around the IF. Other than that, sure, what does he add? We can talk about Bichette/Bregman, but I doubt they’re realistic additions. I don’t think it’s for not trying, I just don’t see it. Tucker is interesting. I’m not at all opposed to moving either/both Greene/Carpenter. Trading a corner OF and trading from among the numerous 2B prospects to bring in some younger and controllable pitching seems wise to me.

If there are logjams at positions, deal from depth to address the shallows. I think they were reluctant about Bregman's throwing arm? Seems like that's never been a strength for him per baseball savant. So, I don't know, take that for whatever its worth I guess. Bichette has the stigma about sticking at SS. McGonigle is also questionable there as well. But is Rainier really the long term SS in the organization? Is McGonigle/Baez/McKinstry or Bichette/Kim a solution at SS until Rainier might be ready? As I mentioned above, I've been interested in Kim for this IF. I wonder if he is the best option available in terms of positional fit and finances to add some OBP, contact hitting, IF defense, baserunning? He opted out of, what, 1 for $16M? What's he looking for? Is he an option that also allows for some serious SP/RP upgrades to shore up those weaknesses?
