  1. That’s a good pull. I remember him as a Mud Hen legend. Well, legend until Deuce got to to town and people took notice of the new sheriff in town.
  2. If he dominates in the head to head matchups whilst the Tigers win the World Series, I think I can deal with it.
  3. You’re right. But how about this idea. He’s slashing around ..230/.330/.480 in his last 14 and last 28 days. Can we just sign up for that in some kind of consistent production and call it good?
  4. Pretty sure it’s double digits, but I don’t feel mathing it out. Just keeping winning.
  5. I think that’s a tough call. Duren should be the player on the upswing of his career while Durant could bottom out at some point. Duren would also be nothing but salary space (which is something) whereas Durant is going to take some draft capital to acquire. Heck, in theory for a Durant trade, Duren would probably be part of the trade going the other way.
  6. League average SO% and below average BB% for Waguespack is nice. BABIP of .103 seems unsustainable.
  7. No worries. It’s going to require a PHD to unravel it. I think the trade that acquired the Darko pick is somehow involved, too.
  8. Yikes! That’s a tough MLB debut.
  9. I thought this was somehow getting rolled into 3 other previously trades?
  10. I would like a 5D flowchart to encapsulate this trade which, if I’m understanding it correctly, might also include the Oakland Raiders and a 5th grade lunch swap to be named later.
  11. Tony Phillips was not going to accept a loss.
  12. He’s going to find himself with an OPS above .700 if he isn’t careful.
  13. Is that an idea that has been discussed or are you pulling that idea from out of LF?
  14. I’m sure I was being too generic with my stamina comment. You bring up the pitch count, and I think there’s something to it and maybe something I need to amend. I’m not suggesting all SP should be ramped back to over 200 IP per season. We will likely never see another season like 1984 where the Tigers used only 15 different P for the entire season. I think a good mix of SP would see top 2 or 3 SP in a rotation get through 7 IP with some regularity. Those types of arms should have no problems putting up a quality start. But maybe baseball has tipped too much in favor of the hitters that the 4th PA between an upper end of the rotation SP vs higher up hitter in a lineup is just too much.
  15. I think one bat in CF and a few new RPs is what is needed. I can see the cost for CF being too much. RP is a fickle market. And nobody knows what the market is going to be. Sure, there are lots of AL teams in contention right now. But will there be a hectic market with this teams being actively negotiating amongst the other non AL WC teams? Or are teams going to think about going onward as currently constructed? And this assumes the Tigers can gain a few games/spots in the standings between now and then. It remains to be seen if that will occur.
  16. I’d like to see the baseball be deadened. We’ve talked about that. I think less reliance on instant offense via home run would enhance the game. More action on baseballs in play because, hopefully, teams would see the reward of home run reduction would need to be offset by the risk of swing and miss. But the more I think of it, the more I wonder if / how long that culture change would take.
  17. I like this idea. He’s not likely to build himself up to an effective MLB SP by the end of this season anyway and there’s an obvious need for RP.
  18. How does this affect the next decade of futility?
  19. I’m talking arm stamina and effort per pitch. My theory is that there’s more effort (velocity, torque, spin, etc) per pitch in today’s game than there was in yesteryears. I would guess that’s in response to offense and the specialization of bullpens and analysis of the 3rd time through the lineup and beyond. These guys are better athletes these days, no doubt about it. Nobody has to peddle shoes or typewriters or washing machines in the offseason. Training and nutrition are better. Players these days could run circles around long retired players, prime vs prime.
  20. This. It’s more than just an in game decision. The players aren’t conditioned to go 9. They simply have not been trained to have the stamina as in the past. It’s tough to blame them when they are performing as deployed to in the machine of the current era.
  21. It’s gonna take a decade to get over this loss.
