It’s all relative to what a trade would look like. I don’t not against Sasser, I tend to agree with you that he was probably miscast. I can see him as a part of a rotation off of the bench. Maybe he could develop some point skills, but definitely not in starter minutes, and maybe only in scaled back bench minutes.

On the other hand, I wouldn't worry about making roster decisions based on parallels with what the Angels think. I think the bigger priority here is to patch something together to bide time until Vierling/Meadows return while at the same time keeping Greene out of CF as much as possible. Now, Moniak's 2023 was fueled by a .397 BABIP, so I agree that his 2023 OPS should be discounted as such. But he is a 110 +OPS vs RHPs on his .318 BABIP vs RHPs over his career. So, if he can field CF well enough and maybe just maybe hit enough at the bottom of the order to fill a platoon role in CF, I think its worth consideration. He'd be cheap, he'd be expendable, he'd fill a short term role.

I like it when the interviewer asks a question of the player and you can tell based on the facial expression of the player that he understands it or even answers it himself.

Yeah, it bothers me, too. But what was the point of it to begin with, does it matter, who cares? It'd have been funny if nothing were mentioned about it and it was up to individual folks to figure it out on there own, how long would it have taken a person to notice? Would it be the same kind of thing as realizing the jersey D and the hat D were different?

I suppose keeping the legs fresh and not overused might be the angle. So if that is indeed the objective, hit more home runs and trot around the bags.

Well, this isn’t the NBA. There isn’t a ten day contract option. So, yeah, it had to be a one year contract. I don’t know how much stock to put into this contract being a sign about Meadows. They just need another CF right now. This keeps Greene out of CF. He can probably handle it from a skill perspective, but why bother tempting fate (or at least increasing the odds) with an injury to the team’s best position player?

He had a few games where he started at SS and then moved to the OF in August and then he played SS exclusively for the last week or so of the season. I don’t know about the August experiment, but the last week was certainly intentional.

Mickey Stanley’s 1968 World Series is a great story, He had all of 68 innings at SS that season before taking the slot in the championship. Maybe he didn’t hit all that well in the series, but he was easily the better batting option over Oyler.

Maybe they find a waiver wire CF early in the season that is worth a chance on the reward side and easy to jettison on the risk side?

I like it. I’ve always liked players that could play adequately around at several positions. Tony Phillips should be the patron saint of everyday players at different defensive positions. Amen.

It kind of was position player chaos a little bit last year, but pitching chaos was much more obvious and up front. Plus, the pitching metrics were astonishing considering the strategy that was employed. Dig too deeply into the bullpen in any game and a team is likely to find a pitcher with a bad game. But to the credit of the Tiger coaches and players, it rarely occurred.
