For whatever it’s worth, Pujols signed a 10 year deal with the Angels. Just scrolling through the Cardinals’ 1B over most of those years, without question the Cardinals had better production from their 1B than the Angels did from Pujols. As far as the playoffs and World Series are concerned, the playoffs are pretty much a crapshoot. Any team can win a single game / 5 game series / 7 game series. I think in general a team’s goal should be to win the division (avoiding the 1 game playoff) and then hope that their roster is healthy enough to perform.

Do the Tigers need the best SS? I think they have a few holes to patch up, and zeroing in on Correa/Seager may prevent adequately addressing the other needs. Any of these SSs are going to be an upgrade over what we've seen out there the past few seasons. Make the smart choice there and get a couple of SPs.

It seems like the AAVs for Seager and Correa are inverted, but essentially its only $2M per. They're all dancing around $30M per. That might be the neighborhood for Correa, Seager, and Story, but I have a hard time seeing that for Semien and Baez. Maybe Semien and Baez get that, but I wouldn't want the Tigers to offer it to them, not for the contract lengths that you've got there. I'd probably order the preference Correa, Seager, Story. After that, I look the trade route and/or hope that Semien/Baez fall down to around 4 year contracts.

Sure, Hinch might not want reunited with Correa. The feelings could be mutual. Ilitch/Avila might not want that that possibility of a distraction even if Correa/Hinch are kosher. Maybe they’re all good with it. Maybe the Tigers want to go with another SS for whatever reason. And along those lines, the assumption of Verlander “coming home” might not work out as some folks have assumed.
