  1. Yes. How much of it is predetermined by the front office, how much of it is based on the what the manager & pitching coach want to do. Now, I know the field crew has an idea of what they want to do in certain situations before the game starts. But how is it orchestrated? Does the front office suggest/mandate going with an opener in the next game and suggest the follower and after that they trust Roberts to make in game decisions? I guess I just kind of wonder what all goes into the game prep and what the decision making process is like during the game.
  2. Uh oh. Charlie Morton might have just died.
  3. A happy buddha?
  4. Lions 0 for 2021.
  5. I'll start this thread as a general thread since I'm sure y'all don't want me in the UM game threads. Anywho, I had no idea what the current OT rule was and was completely befuddled when I saw the box score with "9 OT" and a slew of 2s in it. Anyone else see that scoring and wonder why a bunch of student-athletes started running the wrong way in OT?
  6. It'd be interesting to know how much of the pitching decision making is orchestrated by someone other than Roberts vs on field in real time. Weren't there questionable Dodger starting lineups in the World Series a couple of seasons ago?
  7. How refreshing.
  8. Might it be because the best lawyers realize that there isn't a lawsuit there?
  9. Detroit Pistons (0-2) vs Atlanta Hawks (1-1)
  10. Yes, the Tigers seem to have crossed into a new paradigm than the suck & rebuild years. The combination of hiring Hinch, the "success" of this past season, and the emergence of the higher echelon prospects have forced that upon the Tigers. Let's see how ownership and the front office treat this offseason. We can and have argued about how they get to this point, but now they are at this point. I think we can all agree that what has happened in the past, at least as far as how the major league roster is handled, ain't repeatable this offseason. I want to see how things are handled before burying them this offseason.
  11. The theories are far fetched, but that people believe in them is truth. Dealing with the people aspect of lottery scratch offs and daily drawings when I worked in a grocery store was awful.
  12. Its been almost 20 seasons since Baker last managed in the World Series. Just think about that on its own, a manager waiting 2 decades from the last World Series to get back to it. Now just think of how baseball has evolved (for the better or worse is not the question) over those 2 decades. Just consider how lineups and pitching staffs/bullpens were drawn up back then and what we are seeing today.
  13. That stinks. And I was hoping for a pair of game 7s, but that possibility was kicked last night. I guess there's still always hope for wining the lottery tonight.
  14. I took a hunter's safety course probably 30-35 years ago. The first thing we were taught and it remains in my head today even though I do not hunt or shoot. Always treat a gun as if it is loaded with real rounds. So, again, in today's age of green screens and CGI and stuff, why is this possible?
  15. Detroit Pistons (0-1) vs Chicago Bulls (1-0)
  16. I guess I don't understand this either. I guess I would assume every prop gun would be completely solid with no capability of firing off even so much as a blank.
  17. It brings up the concept of "better". What is better over 162 games? I don't think 3 or 4 games out of 162 means one team is decidedly proven better than another. Its useful for seeding, I think that's fine. But then you look at the Dodgers as a wildcard at 106 wins and division winners at 107, 95, and 88 wins. I'm sorry, I don't buy those division winners being better than the Dodgers over the course of a season. MLB needs to change the one game elimination assignment to reward the better teams.
  18. Throw the Cardinals in there. 16 playoff appearances and 2 championships in the past 3 decades.
  19. A lot of people use a silent or poorly enunciated T after a P. I like the Darling goes strong with it.
  20. Wait, you mean you didn't factor in TWTW and sock height?
  21. I don't know, I'd like this kind of a run of seasons. 8 straight division championships and playoff appearances? You know, I bet the numerical odds (not the Vegas odds) of the results of the playoff appearances line up with what actually happened on the field. 3 lost NLDS. 2 lost NLCS. 2 lost WS. 1 won WS. 1 TBD, although at worst would be a lost NLCS. Where do I sign up for this?
  22. Nothing is bullet proof in the playoffs. Too short of a sample size. Remember, the Tigers swept the Astros in a road series earlier this year and won the overall season series 5-2.
  23. So that’s half of the Mt Rushmore of “Tigers that got away to a World Series winner”.
  24. Tampa (payroll $64M) division winner by 8 games. New York ($209M) and Boston ($154M), wildcards.
  25. I was a bagger a little over 30 years ago, well before bringing your own bags was a thing. We had a semi regular customer who had created her own totes out of wife beaters. She simply sewed the waist of the A shirts closed, and then she used the shoulder straps as the handles. They were pretty strong and the fabric was much more durable than a plastic bag.
