Part of the angst against him might simply have been spill over from being part of that era of Tiger malaise. Personally I don't care about trading within the division. What do the Twins want for him? What about Duran, Varland, Coulombe? Jax? Stewart? Lopez is a sizable deal, would they mark down the prospect request to move his salary with one or two of the other RPs?

Kwan at the top of the lineup vs RHPs would be fun. *But he doesn't hit LHP. And does he go to RF or does Greene go to RF? I suppose Carpenter to RF and Green/Kwan platoon LF/DH. Or does Kwan have the chops to patrol CF? I agree with you about Sweeney. As for the platoons, Torkelson at 1B, Torres at 2B, Greene at LF,.... If Meadows and Vierling could get themselves into a modicum of their 2024 season (I'll split the difference on Meadows's 2024 given the uberglove), that would help solidify 3B/CF with the understanding that Keith is also going to factor into 3B. Meadows has a BABIP around .250 right now vs a league average around .300. Vierling has a FB% of around 50% vs a career average and a league average of 25%. So when I look at that, I think there's reason to believe both are unlucky and/or getting through bad starts to their seasons. *-Edit to Kwan: He has been competent vs LHPs in his career, so the 2025 line might be more flukey than I originally thought.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread

As bad as things have been the last couple of weeks, the Tigers have not lost much ground for the playoffs. They have lost ground for the top seed of the league, but they're still amongst those teams. -
The bullpen need is obvious. I don't think there's a debate there. I suspect the offense will pull out of it eventually. But I do wonder, the alternate universe 1st halves from Baez and McKinstry, how do the 2nd halves get forecasted there? That's a bit tricky, but maybe a bat acquisition pushes that pair into a SS platoon to minimize a market change to one defensive position rather than two. And let's also remember Dingler is in his first full MLB season, so there's that bit of concern as well. Carpenter's return should be considered a boost to the offense. But we've seen the injuries, we understand he's a LHB vs RHP only per this organization, and teams will exploit that as best they can rather than other areas in the Tiger lineup. There's chatter about Suarez for 3B. I suppose Nailor's trade to Seattle just further reveals Arizona's hand there. Nailor wouldn't have fit in Detroit with 1B/DH taken up. Suarez, if you're alright with his defense, could have a spot on the Tiger roster. But given he is perceived to be the best bat on the market and that he does come with a weak arrow in his quiver, I'm not sure he's a likely target. Or, let's consider this. Perhaps the Tigers still think Meadows and Vierling are due to perk up at the plate and that solves a few of the issues with the offense? Is that too far out of the realm of possibility?

I believe it’s been 177-27. This stretch sucks. But we’ll be able to laugh at it after the Tigers sweep the Dodgers in October.

The Jung HR was caught by the middle kid of a trio of yutes. The kid to the middle kid's left (the kid on the right if you're watching the clip from your preferred electronical device) should have a swollen eye today as that ball was traveling straight to his noggin which was firmly focused on his mobullar telephone. Bru was scrolling his instwitbook feeds rather than watching the game.

Showcasing Hartlieb for Toronto? Bichette traded during or after the series?

Has the ESPN power rankings bumped the Tigers into the Others Receiving Votes category yet? -
I don’t know the signing bonus rules. But based on this spreadsheet, teams are allowed to offer up to $150K to picks after the 10th round without it hitting the cumulative pool “cap”? And as we see with the overages above and beyond $150K to Hamilton and Wimpelberg, those count against the pool?

Lone Jack is the name of the high school? It might make for a decent nickname for him.

This is the correct answer.

Anyone hear Stavenhagen on the Tiger Territory podcast? He threw out a name that no one has suggested. Fits the Hinch scheme of things as far as a good semi regular versatile bench piece. Can play multiple defensive positions, is a switch hitter that does well vs LHPs. Cheap contract. Plays within the division, if that’s a concern for a trade. And when he mentioned it, if you give it a bit of thought, he’s more right about it than you might want to believe. Willi Castro.

Oh, come on now. Lean into that with your chest. Crowd the plate when you’re typing that. Chins up, people. They weren’t going to get through a whole season without some sort of struggle. Must win. For crying out loud, they survived Ryan Kreidler in CF and Kenta Maeda on the mound earlier on this season. Must win. The park should be packed with Toronto coming into town. A rekindling of 1984 in a somewhat different geographically playoffical set of circumstances. The winner of this series gets control of the Windsor Ballet until the next season. Wait, what? Must win!

The park should be buzzing this weekend. Maybe that’ll be the magical elixir to the recent slide. Everybody have fun tonight. Everybody Wang Chung tonight.

It sucks. With all of the glitter and champagne that gets tossed about Harris, there are some whiffs on his Tiger striped resume. I thought Maeda was a fine move, Cobb less so but somewhat understandable. Obviously neither is working out. -

In my completely amateurish and wholly unqualified opinion, the swing path worries me because of how extreme it is. When its in, its on, and its glorious. But does that severe uppercut lend itself to being off easier than a more level swing? I would think so. And I'm just talking about the bat swing. I think that affects the SOs and contact quality. I don't think it affects his ability to draw BBs, at least not directly. I guess one could say the more swing and miss pitches earlier in the count could lead to more BBs rather than early pitch contact outs, but I don't know. I guess furthermore considering other parts of his game, is he going to be a burn bright early and burn out quicker? We've also discussed his running gate and he's had some injuries in his past. We can talk about Skubal's contract situation and "hope" for an extension. I'm not sure how I would feel about a Greene extension. Obviously its all about the details. -
It’s weird seeing the Rangers play inside. I get why they have a roof. But I really liked the old place from a watching the game on TV and enjoying the visual standpoint of things.

I’m somewhat familiar with Americanish. I do think you’ve used that written language here. However, I have no idea what in the world you’re stating.
