  1. I was thinking for off MLB in total for betting revenue.
  2. As was addressed on TtC, the lack of a bench IF for consecutive days didn't make any sense to me. It especially doesn't make sense when carrying a 3rd C. I understand the desire to use Haase as an extra OF, but carrying a 3rd C at the expense of keeping only 2 healthy MIFs (in theory they could use Cabrera as a 1B and Torkelson as a 3B if those situations presented themselves). Eventually they did recall CastroW, which while not ideal, at least he's been out there before. I don't know, I suppose the unknown of Baez's thumb truly was day-to-day and the decision IL him was just a matter of, well, they've gotten to this point, might as well give him a few more games off just to be sure. As for Barnhart, or anyone else on the roster, they're only 9 games deep. Individually I'm not too worried about him. But you probably have a point where in comparison to Garneau, is he really an upgrade? Oh, and don't look now, but Quintana is slashing .316/.458/.579 at A+ Dayton. Yes, I know, he's older than the competition and the small sample size applies.
  3. So if we're talking concessions revenue, 9:45 is probably around the time that stands are ramping things down, certainly for beer sales (if they still shut those down around the 7th inning). It'd be interesting to see in game betting and how different situations affect betting. Is there more action (as a % of total) in close & late situations because bettors have the bets themselves, but there is also the draw in of a close game (ie, a bit more of a dose of adrenaline)? The game also slows down a bit then with pitching changes and deliberate delays in the game flow itself.
  4. I wonder if he is related to Sidd Finch.
  5. I don't know that I agree with this. I think there can be real baseball fans that are too old school with certain aspects of the game.
  6. You could listen on your phone with the same subscription.
  7. Huh? How so? He wasn't getting 5 hits today, so whittling that 5 down to 4 or 3 or 2 or 1 would increase the chances of getting 3,000 at home.
  8. Can’t wait to hear MLB players push back on this.
  9. Chris Brown slept on his eyelid wrong.
  10. Hey, get in there and get ready to hit.
  11. Maybe his dad will create one?
  12. You know, considering the combination of injuries and poor offense, 4-5 ain’t too bad.
  13. They signed Mike Pelfrey for around that. I’m not sure that’s what the kids call a “ringing endorsement” these days.
  14. Jackass Morris at his finest.
  15. Ambidextrous pitchers. The Tigers better start looking into them.
  16. So, I'm looking at baseball reference box play by play, and it shows that there was a 3-0 count when the intentional walk was authorized. The pitcher, RH Austin Warren, entered the game the batter before and walked Marcus Semien on 4 straight pitches. Seager is a LHH (.900 career OPS vs LHPs), and is followed up in the lineup by RHH Mitch Garver (.819 career OPS vs RHPs), so not too much of a difference there that seems worth exploiting while giving up the tying run in the 4th inning. I guess if Warren had just thrown 7 straight balls (and I don't know if he was getting squeezed or if he was all over the place, or what happened) and looked like absolute pooh, I can see the thought process if Madden just wanted to get through the mandatory 3 batters and getting Warren out of there by just given up one base per batter rather than risking a bases clearing extra base hit. But that didn't happen, Warren stayed in the game, faced 7 batters, got only 4 outs, tossed 12 strikes out of 23 pitches, and earned the victory.
  17. That's kind of a shame. I didn't always check it, but I fully respect and appreciate the diligence that was involved with keeping up with the numbers.
  18. Inherited runners can be a bit misleading. Inheriting a runner on 3rd with 0 outs is different than inheriting a runner on 1st with 2 outs. Now that you mention Lee, I seem to recall seeing some sort of stat that attributes partial runs to RPs if a runner on base scores. Something like if there is a runner on 3rd and there is a pitching change, the runner scores, the P that allowed the runner to 3rd gets 3/4 ER and the RP gets 1/4 ER. Perhaps that was in Lee's book? I can't remember.
  19. John Sterling sometimes simulcasts an alternative reality onto his TV broadcasts, but I don't think that's exactly what you are looking for.
  20. Leyland offered to have his own ears pierced if Cabrera won another triple crown, but alas, it was not to be.
  21. Hmmmm.... So, we all realize that RPs can have their ratios, at least the traditional ones like ERA & WHIP, dinged up pretty good by a rough outing. SPs have the QS and QS% stats (which admittedly are not perfect if the floor is a 4.50 ERA). The question for the room is do RPs have a similar stat? I suppose BSs is somewhat in the realm of that, but I guess I'm thinking about something more based along the lines of something ERA or WHIP based with an IP qualifier. Something along the lines of a quality relief appearance being at least an inning with an ERA of no more than 4.50 or something like that?
  22. I don't think a simulcast would be that impossible. I may need to pay more attention to that the next time I watch a Walleye or Mud Hens game. Both have home games simulcast on TV & radio. I'll rather than listen, so that might not be the same experience, but I've never really considered whether the radio side is getting a poor broadcast at the expense of the TV broadcast.
  23. Wow, I didn’t realize Carey was only 63.
  24. This isn’t covered in the unwritten rules of baseball manuscripts, is it?
