Around the 7th or 8th inning, the ESPN broadcast crew noted a definite shrinking of the strike zone when Milwaukee was pitching, which was accompanied by chirping from that dugout. And then the discussion about consistency being more important than perhaps and more wiggle room on one batter's box side or the other, or calling lower strikes. Now that I think about it, earlier in the game Jean Segura (PHI) took considerable exception to a pitch up & in that was out of the zone but called a strike. Eric Lauer went back to the same spot because, as the broadcast crew mentioned, hey, it was a strike on the pitch before it, go after it again. Should be a fun strike zone report card to review.

Alright. That's the literal tone that I took from it, but I guess I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Well, at least they've gotten away from the date chatter. Sort of.

Its amazing to think this team had 20 hits in a game. They have 112 in 15 games, and average of 7.5 per game. A whopping 17.9% of their hits in one game (which, OK, its early and easily to play numbers games). Its amazing to think an MLB team could have 20 hits in a game and only 2 of those were extra base hits.

I think this team is still largely unknown at this point. Baez, Mize, Manning, Greene, and Chafin have all have lost a good amount of time. Candelario, Schoop, and Baddoo have been awful. Candelario and Schoop can easily be considered underperforming based on their resumes. Baddoo, we still don't know, last season could be an aberration. They've played only 15 games. As bad as they've been, they're only 1.5 GB. It ain't like anyone is running away with the division. Every ALC team as had issues.

I'm not suggesting Torkelson will be at 3B in 2-3 years. Heck, he played it last season. Its not like we're talking a complete fish out of water scenario like when Alex Avila had that 5 innings at 3B.

Was it an honest conversation or was it a poor attempt at playing devil's advocate?

At this point, I don’t know why anyone would believe Simmons will be playing until he is actually in a game playing. Honestly, if you’re the opponent, do you even bother game playing with him in mind? Seems like a waste of time. And then if he is out there, you go right at him, right? He’s probably lost so much game speed reps, make him prove he’s not rusty.

That’s cool, thanks for sharing. I haven’t an artful or creative molecule in me, so this is somewhat mesmerizing to me.

Or what about Torkleson at 3B, Cabrera at 1B, Meadows at DH for a game here or there is Candelario continues to struggle?

We were forewarned of such.

Baez had a fun time tracking a fly ball today, too. And there was the play later in the game where a trio of Rockies converged on a fly that fell in short LF where Grossman was kind of damned if he ran from 2nd and damned if he didn’t.

He has struggled with some foul fly balls. It’s kind of weird. I’ve counted 3 or 4 on the season. Aside from that, I think he’s been fine.

Nah, I don’t want to see anybody hitting the 60, that’s bad news. Ideally he continues to outperform his peripherals and we’re left to keep guessing how or his peripherals & output both improve. I’m more than happy to eat crow if he turns into a highly effective pitcher.
