I heard that during Friday’s game, too.

Wilbur Wood wasn’t a SP until his age 29 season. Just eyeballing it, he had around 400 games and 600 Innings pitched starting with his MLB debut at age 19. It’s kind of silly to think of that kind of career trajectory given how modern day bullpens are made of failed starters (or so the story goes). I bet a lot of folks don’t realize Jack Morris’s first full season in MLB was out of the bullpen after a handful of starts the year before. Pedro Martinez and Nolan Ryan are a couple of HOFs that started their MLB careers with some decent time out of the bullpen.

There currently are openings in the Detroit back end of bullpen.

McNeill got a run in and safely got on base. Maybe Jansen was salty because the Tigers wouldn’t be able to successfully execute that?

Yeah, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the trade weekend goes. Although the Tigers are out west and that might be some inconvenience in getting MLB roster replacements in town, they do have an off day on Monday and shouldn’t have to deal with a shortened bench or bullpen. At this point I can give or take a deal for Mize. If they get offered more value than the compensation pick, then that’s probably a trade to make. If not, keeping him around to push for the playoffs is not a bad thing. I would like to see them move Torres. Lee seems ready, Anderson looks promotable, Baez is back. I would think if they got a return for Jones and Rogers, they can get something of good value for Torres.

I think this makes sense. An OF of Greene, Clark, and Hope keeps Carpenter at DH which should help his health. Personally, I’d put Carpenter on the trade block, but I can see where is trade value might have dropped this season. I like the fact that Hope has been a CF. Doesn’t matter to me how they line up Clark and Hope as long as it makes sense. I like the combination of CF range in multiple OF positions.

Winning is relevant.

The phrase “if healthy” and the current 60 day injured list population isn’t exactly an inspiring combination.

Let’s see what the roster looks like Monday evening. I would think the Tigers have Hope play in Toledo before Detroit. Have they promoted anyone from AA to MLB under Harris’ watch?

I don’t know. It is interesting to think about. But it just rarely works out this way. I think I’m done with counting on Carpenter for much. Too brittle, considered nothing more than a platoon player (justified or not), defense is suspect. I really would like a good defensive OF for once. I’m worried about Greene aging and heading towards a future role as DH sooner than later. in fact, the trio of Greene, Carpenter, and Torkleson are all free agents after 2028. I don’t know that they’ll all still be Tigers at that point.

I’m not sure what Olson’s future holds for him. Maybe a move to the bullpen is best for his longevity. Can he be a multiple inning guy out of the bullpen, maybe going through a lineup once? Gipson-Long isn’t pitching all that well in Toledo. He hasn’t been brought up with all of the other pitching staff moves this season. It seems like that’s the writing on the wall. Jacobs in the mix seems a stretch given his control issues in A and A+ ball.

He had 4 of 5 senses on that one. He could see it, hear it, smell it, and I bet he could taste it as it went by him. Fortunately for him he didn’t fell it, but I bet he could feel the wake of the line drive.

You’re right that the bullpen is a weakness and needs addressed and that Clark doesn’t address that directly. However, it doesn’t mean that Clark is not ready for promotion and/or that his play in CF and at the plate cannot help the Tigers.
