  4. I'd put Broadcast News in there too. Or at least they nailed it at the time..
  5. They need a Dan Campbell style pep talk
  6. If your relying information from Cash Patel, it's probably wrong
  7. On the TV side with the emergence of CNN and a bit later Fox it was fairly factual. Folks were glued to CNN during the first Iraqi War. Fox tried to compete but never really really could. That's when Fox decided to do the We Report, You Decide campaign. It seems everything changed with the 2000 contested election and Murdoch's political bent took over. Ted Turner saw the light, sold CNN and retired to Montana or someplace.... The Gulf War followed by Obama's election made the gulf between opinion and News widen. Big $$$$$ won
  8. That's been the case in several games this last stretch. A bunch of little things. Bloop here, error there. Last night was a major meltdown. It's almost like I'm watching my OOTP Go team implode on me
  9. Supposedly there are regulations limiting the number of TV and/or Radio stations a company can own in a single market. Or a number of stations in the US overall. Personally I feel the problem is when they eliminated the Fairness Doctrine in the late 1980s. The reasoning was the growth of other media, like cable at the time eliminated the need to have a well regulated structure insuring all voices be heard on a subject. Since then "News" has become monetized. It's no longer what's true or tactful, but what brings in the most eyeballs or clicks or whatever. Now that every Tom, **** or Mary can create a podcast or a U-Tube , or a Tic-Toc platform it's become the Wild West. I'm not sure what the solution is now that things like Public Media have become a political football in many circles. If more regulation would actually require independent accountability. I'm all for it. But I think it goes deeper. And there is no correct answer in today's political climate.
  10. Murrow was right, —“This instrument can teach, it can illuminate, yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise, it is nothing but wires and lights in a box” The other part of that RTNDA speech... if the medium is driven only by profit and comfort, it will not inform citizens enough to sustain democracy. This is where we are now. Deregulate the media. When the Fairness Doctrine died...it became anarchy
  11. Are you sure it's Morgan or his viewers. I have money on the latter
  12. Good thing the First Lady took action and started walking. Who knows how long Dear Leader would have been stuck on that contraption

  14. In a sane world this could open up a whole new can of worms. It would allow any center of left leaning group could go after every radio station owner in the country that airs “conservative” talk and make it a test case. I would love to see someone challenge whatever Clear Channel or whatever they’re calling themselves today tiptoe around a case like that. Same with every owner who airs a preacher who ventures into the political space during one of their on air sessions
  15. Isn’t there some sort of radar system set up in the minors on balls and strikes. I was at one of the Independent League games in Utica a couple of years ago when the system was instituted there. The decision on ball/strike challenges was almost instantaneous
  16. Nexstar is in the process of purchasing another 56 or so stations from TENGA Broadcasting many of them ABC affiliates. Flood the FCC with letters requesting they do not approve this merger as it waters down the competition in the market
  17. By the time Roseanne was pulled off her show she had become a certified nut case. Anyone remember her disrespectful version of the National Anthem (convince me that wasn't planned in advance.) Did the obscene ball grabbing bit in public. I'm pretty sure she also made life difficult for show producers and the network. Prove me wrong
  18. Several years ago when the Red Sox lost to the Mets in the World Series one of my former bosses asked his wife for a divorce. I'm not sure that was the only reason for the separation but the timing was interesting. That taught a younger me a lesson. It's only a game, a form of entertainment none of what happens on a professional playing field or even a high or college sport will drastically alter my life. Growing up as a Pirates fan, I'd be depressed for a few hours after things like the Pirates losing to the Reds in the playoffs, or really upset the night that they lost to the Braves in a walk-off. No one got killed. I still had a job, wife, son....that's been my perspective for a long while now. Same as when the Tigers lost to the Cardinals, Giants, Boston.... Watching the Tigers play like they have been the past couple of months has been frustrating for sure, but life goes on....there are much more important things
  19. Please explain that to my lungs. Grew up in houses that had coal furnaces. One of my chores included emptying ashes and getting the coal into the basement. I'm not sure that was the primary cause of my ILD, there were a few other factors living in the 1960s and beyond...

  21. So if the Rapture comes and Trump and Company is still here, what happens next?
  22. One of the issues around here is growth in the Richmond exurbs that extend into our portion of James City County and New Kent County. Bringing in more large subdivisions. There is one across the main subdivision road from us that's expected to bring about 1500 homes into the area. That land was once owned by a now defunct hunt club. A large portion is preserve and will remain that way. Still a lot of growth and an issue for those want things to remain the way they were in 1980. There are a couple of farms up for sale, not huge but big enough for an industrial site or warehouses or more homes depending on what the county board approves. The old timers don't want homes, or warehouses or strip malls (we could really use a grocery store) or even solar farms. The reality is the original owners have either passed or wanting to retire and their kids have moved out of the area and have no interest in the property. My feeling is in the meantime or even in the long run a company like the company posted wants to lease or buy property for something that really isn't intrusive do it. I'd rather see that than another old house and outbuilding falling down along the highway.
  23. I haven't been paying close attention. What time is the rapture? Should I cancel lunch plans and head to a bar? Is there a dress code? Can I wear shorts and my Madison quote T-shirt (If men were angels)?
