  1. I'm going to age myself here. As a young lad I grew up listening to artists like Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Nat King Cole, Mel Torme, etc. Long before I discovered Pop music of the mid 60s. I go back and forth between eras a lot. Anyway, who knew Seth McFarlane could croon. What rock have I been living under. His latest album is a throw back and tribute to the greats, but also legendary arraigners like Nelson Riddle, Billy May, Don Costa, Henry Mancini, etc. McFarlane's latest find, original Sinatra scores saved by the family is a real treasure trove
  2. Outside of Love and maybe his son, this group should be considered a Beach Boys Tribute Band. Much like the "ABBA" band that played the night before. (It was classified as a tribute). Not what I was willing to spend a dismally hot Sunday at $50 a ticket for lawn seating.

  6. I think the state, especially the old line members of the legislature, see them as a substantial cash cow. You privatize the stores, you need to find about $500 Million in income to the state in the form of increased taxes either from privately run liquor stores, sales or income taxes. I'd much rather have the ABC stores than see the personal property tax on my car go up again. I'm old enough to remember when liquor by the drink was a big issue in restaurants and such. It's a long slog to bring the region into the 21st century
  7. The 1980's days of SuperStations on cable. Those are long gone. I would enjoy Cubs (WGN), Mets (WOR), Braves (WSB??, Ted Turners Super Station, pre-CNN) Now everything seems to hinge on streaming, cable is hanging on but mostly to provide internet service for the most part IMO. Especially when you factor in internet packages vs cable/internet and the various streaming services. Fortunately my cell phone provider T-Mobile) has been offering free MLB TV the past couple of years. You have to sign up at the beginning of the season for the promotion.

  11. It's not the heat (upper 90s here today) the humidity was horrible
  12. A bit off track but I found out today that folk singer Woody Guthrie had a song called Old Man Trump in his repertoire. The song describes Fred Trump's racist practices as a landlord. Woody rented an apartment at Trump's Beach Haven Apartments. I don't think he ever recorded the song but did sing it often. There are versions on YouTube Here is an AI updated version on his son
  13. To clarify, I belief Biden still has most of his facilities needed to be POTUS. I'm not sure he would be good for a full term. The same with Trump, but Vance cares me a lot more than Harris would have. Especially with the teams around them
  14. But still many around him still drink the Kool Aid. Just like with Wilson, FDR, JFK (to an extent, and possibly Biden)
  15. They are not pro life, not even pro birth anymore. Definitely not Christian (or the way my Presbyterian/Church of the Brethren/Methodist upbringing taught me

  21. June 23, 1775. Peyton Randolph convenes a meeting of Williamsburg’s inhabitants "to consider of the expedience of stationing a number of men here for the publick safety, as well as to assist the citizens in their nightly watches, to guard against any surprise from our enemies." The citizens unanimously agreed to invite from a number of counties, 250 men. In the meantime, surrounding counties are furnishing guards.
