  1. Interesting piece in Axios regarding East Palestine. It seems the hamlet is a magnet for train derailments https://www.axios.com/2023/03/01/east-palestine-derailment-history-norfolksouthern?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter_axioslocal_detroit&stream=top
  2. It's more like Porter Wagoner, without Dolly
  3. I prefer to call them the Banana Republic Party
  4. Or maybe DeSantis and Abbott could just bus them to where they're needed....
  5. And the Bobby Layne Curse will be banished forever and ever, amen
  6. Since the owner of the Cubs just donated to DeSantis' PAC this probably belongs here I really have no desire to be like Florida and it's current dictatorship
  7. Just me spitballing but if you viewership depends on catering to the fringe maybe it's time to rethink your strategy. Fox News was credible when they first came on the air, but something happened around 2008, or possibly a bit before. With the rise of the Tea Party and the election of Obama they went from "Fair and Balanced" to "Unhinged and Deranged"
  8. Illitch and company have been keeping us in the dark for years. We're basically mushrooms
  9. Rafael is mad as hell and won't take it any more (unless Republicans do it)
  10. Back in the days of Cronkite and Brinkley the networks news divisions were never considered to be profit centers. Then the bean counters and "consultants" took the place of folks who truly believed in good journalism. Radio stations who switched to talk from music had shows that presented both sides of the issues. But Carter, Reagan and Clinton along with congress killed that so all that's left is the same 30 rehashed songs on the FM and right wing propaganda on the AM. Cable gives "reality" program and occasionally sports if we're luck....and we pray to the neon gods
  11. I honestly get where you're coming from. Especially since my Tiger fandom is relatively new. Still a Pirates fan from 1960 and '79. Both teams are nowhere near I would like them to be. At 70 with an ailment one doctor says is life defining I refuse to be bitter about baseball teams over I have no control. It's moe fun to be sarcastic than thin skinned
  12. OK I admit being out of line with the White Sox snark. I should have said Cubs😉
  13. I for one would love to see CNN go back to the Ted Turner era. But that's like wishing the Tigers would magically transform back to Sparky's boys.
  14. Some of my best friends are White Sox fans. My son's first MLB game was at old Comiskey Park.
  15. Maybe you should become a White Sox fan. That seems to suit you better
  16. Has he paid his lawyers yet? I know he's going to stiff everyone else.
  17. You realize that at this point in DD's tenure (first full season) he named Louis Pujols as manager. The guy was famous for spending non game time in his office watching the Weather Channel. Look at the Tigers 2002 starting lineup and you find such stellar players as Chris Truby, Wendell Magee, Randall Simon and Shane Halter. It took Trading Dave a couple of seasons to get to 2006-2012. Yet you're shitting on a guy who got here after the season ended. I'm also old enough to remember when fans used to accuse Mike Illitch of caring more for the Wings and Tigers and the same things your saying about Chris could have bern said about your fagher. You sound like a bandwagon jumper who only remembers the few good years.
  18. A decent dinner here is going to run at least $25-40 an entree. We avoid the tourist traps mostly. There are a few close to the college and CW that we will frequent once in a while. But at the same time there is enough food for another meal most of the time. We joke that our biggest food expense is wine.
  19. It's been a while since we've been there. Spent a couple years in the near north between 1999 and 2000. It was a temporary landing spot as my wife's duties at her job basically required a move downtown. Liked it a lot, close to almost everything except reasonable grocery store (we lived above the Whole Foods). If we had stuck around Chicago we would have probably headed farther north.
  20. The NFL would never kill their golden goose. To me the Fox O and O's are not the problem. The problem is the "News" division at the cable level. If companies like Comcast and Cox as well as Direct TV would make moves to delist Faux News then you would be on to something. It's better to cancel guys like Hannity and Tucker than Bart and Homer
  21. No argument, you need to avoid River North or Streeterville😉
  22. I watched him a bit in Wash. No way, I'd much rather go after Heinike
  23. I think I found what I was looking for https://www.longmontleader.com/beyond-local/beyond-local-hazardous-chemical-crashes-too-frequent-in-the-us-6589801 Once again this doesn't absolve the railroads. Just satisfies my curiosity as a former traffic reporter.
  24. Not to downplay the effects of railway incidents or defend the rail industry (esp NS) but I would be curious about the number of incidences of over the road truck traffic similar to rail. Between truck fires, wrecks and things like trailers that seem to far apart, one would think the amount of people affected might be similar. Especially in tank trucks.
