  1. I haven't been to Harbor Park yet, it's been a busy summer and I haven't wanted to brave tourist traffic and the tunnel. 😉 The park is over 20 years old and a vast improvement still (from what I've seen from the outside) over the old place near the airport (There's an IKEA there now. This Spring we stayed at the Aloft hotel next to the park in Durham before my 6 month checkup at Duke. Will be back in September right after the season ends. Our visits to relatives in the area just haven't coincided with home stands. I was the Salem park several years ago, it's was nice then, I hope it held up. Spent many a summers evening in the early 70s at the old park that doubled as a high school football field. By the way, if you're looking for interesting ballparks, check out Deltaville, Va. One of the last wooden parks left. There's a small "town league" in the region and they play some games there. We drove by it a couple of weeks ago, but it was about 4 hours before game time. Not much to do there to kill time with smallish dog in tow. (The park does allow dogs) https://deltavilleballpark.com
  2. After what Youngkin did in Virginia in '21, I'm not taking anything for granted. Trumpkin isn't DJT and maybe closer to DeSantis in philosophy, but he was still a wolf in sheepskin vest. His opponent was not inspiring either and a bunch of otherwise intelligent people got fooled. The key factor in 2024 just may be how many people say f-.... it and stay home,
  3. Was trying to remember when Salem, Va entered the Carolina League. I guess it was 1968 or so. The Pirates had their Appalachian League team there prior to that.
  4. I got to thinking a bit about the "Small Town" thought. We lived in the Chicago area for 10 years, worked Downtown, 20 years in Metro Detroit. There is a substantial portion of the population in both areas that give the "you weren't raised here, you're not part of us vibe"....very much a small town attitude. Currently where we live could possibly be considered small town. But between the military population and the number of retirees moving it's a different vibe. Unless you talk to long time locals.
  5. This NYT Newsletter addresses it a bit. The assumption that a small majority of the NOTA's would lean toward Biden. I have a feeling we're looking at something similar to 2016 where a majority really didn't want either candidate. Biden's age (nobody seems concerned about Trump's age and BMI) as well as choice for VP could play into the calculation as well. i'm not sure if this link will work, but here goes https://messaging-custom-newsletters.nytimes.com/template/oakv2?abVariantId=0&campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20230801&instance_id=98934&nl=the-morning&productCode=NN&regi_id=73869733&segment_id=140795&te=1&uri=nyt%3A%2F%2Fnewsletter%2F39711863-c9ad-58b2-8f6c-6f90e89b2424&user_id=ab209330359f3e3101d0a3b6a50d1777
  6. When you can’t beat out Jesse Gonder it’s time to move on. He got a ring out of it (and a good retirement job with Mr I)

  11. I'm seeing the Rangers are looking for a starter and reliever in trade, they're hoping to get both from one team would a combination of Rodríguez, Lorenzen, Cisneros, Lang or Foley be enough to target Acuña and possibly another prospect?
  12. So it's apparently it's ok to join a riot, break in and vandalize the Capitol. But a small group of under paid interns taking pictures of the Capitol dome drives a Trumpublican Congress critter bat**** crazy....
