Meanwhile, I was reading last night about a low power community FM radio station in Northern California that has begun fund raising to replace their tower that was felled during a windstorm. The original "tower" that held the antenna was actually a large tree. Somehow it actually passed FCC inspection.

I had the urge to take this picture this morning. It's out my bedroom window and what I see at first light. There is something about that tall pine that resonates and assures me each morning.

My grandfather was a big fan of studio wrestling. Always on Saturday afternoons. I kind of picked up the habit for a while. We had the SE version (WCW) ??? Rick Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Anderson Brothers....the whole Jim Crockett group. I never really got involved with following the WWF

The 80's cable systems also had the opportunity to watch teams on a regular basis. The Cubs on WGN, Braves on WSB (?) Ted Turner owned the station and the team. Same with the Cubs...The Tribune Company had control of WGN-AM and TV. There was also the Mets broadcast out of N.Y. in the Strawberry, Gooden hay day. There always seemed to be an afternoon game somewhere and gave the fans out of the metro areas to pick a team. Living in SE VA we had the Mets AAA team in the Tides as well as the Braves AAA guys in Richmond. That also contributed to an interest. Also the "Super Stations" as they were billed were over the air broadcasts they weren't blacked out in the home cities.

T Mobile had a deal last year with MLB.COM on games. Trying to remember, but I think it was free. It did have the usual black out restrictions so if you're in the the Tiger's blackout area you're still out of luck.

I agree. I also don't have a major problem with what the family of Dr Seuss did with some of his stories...they own them, they have a right of control. But at the same time as a parent it opens up an opportunity for discussion. TBH, I don't know the correct answer. For example I'm heading to a program this afternoon in CW featuring the actors who portray George and Martha Washington. The subject basically covers slavery, Martha's take when she discovers her husband's will (which frees his slaves) and George will talk about his views changed over time. I saw something similar with a younger version of GW and his interaction with the Indian tribes a couple of months ago. I find it fascinating

Children's author probably geared to ages 9, 10, 11 or so. My son loved some of his books. James and the Giant Peach, Willie Wonka among others. There are some misogyny and racial overtones in some of his books and I understand the concern of some. But I feel the same way about banning and possibly rewriting some of the Dr Seuss books or even Mark Twain. I feel somewhere its the role of the parent(s) to discuss concerns with their children not self appointed or elected gatekeepers.

Finding myself more amused than outraged. But, I guess thats what happens when you get old. I remember reading some of the early versions of Grimm's Fairy tales when I was younger. They've all been sanitized. Funny, I can't find the old Danny Kaye book anywhere... But, looking forward to reading James and the Great Big Peach..

Old people stopped around 3 PM. When I was young and we made trips to Pa, we'd leave in the evening after work. My folks had a Rambler station wagon. Put the mattress from the sleeper sofa in the back. We'd fall asleep, my dad could drive in peace... The mattress helped on the trip back because that danged car would tend to break down south of the Mason Dixon Line.

The 50 thousand watt blowtorches. Most all were on clear channels (no other station could use the frequency or with a few the frequency was shared by daytimers that went off the air at sunset). I basically grew up listening to KDKA until we moved south. Could still catch them at night if conditions were good. I remember sitting in my car with the GM of the Pirates single A team in Salem,VA listening to John Candelaria's first big league game. Candy had spent part the year before in Salem. KDKA, WBZ, WCFL were my primary late night go tos...

The FCC Coverage map for 97.1 has anything south of Monroe considered fringe. Since their tower is in Southfield (I think they share the channel 7 tower) 60 miles or so by line of sight. 96.1 lists both Toledo and Archibold as sites. I'm waiting for the next BIG TRUTH to come out after reading the stuff from the Dominion Lawsuit. Hannity, Carlson, Ingrahm, Alex Jones, et all voted for Biden. They know the faux outrage using a Biden Presidency along with their racism over Harris is much more profitable than another Trump term.The same goes for the Limbaugh successors on talk radio. They are all laughing all the way to the bank. As always the crooks win.

Season 3 of Strike is airing on HBOMax. It's based on the Strike novels by JK Rowling (under the Robert Galbraith pseudonym). The first couple of episodes are very good.

That's the problem, not to mention the only Amtrak lines east seem to run out of Toledo. About 25 years ago my son and I tried Amtrak from Chicago to Roanoke, Va to visit family. It was an overnight run at about 13 hours. I hated it, not to mention the train didn't go into Roanoke, but about 40 miles north to Clifton Forge. I'm looking at about 2 hours from Richmond to DC by train. From Williamsburg its probably equal to driving.

I think those of us who have spent some time outside the region kind of understand that. In my 20 some years living in the Detroit region the biggest complaint has come from tourists, students and business people about the difficulty and expense of traveling from DTW. DTW is probably one of the better "major" hubs to fly thru. However try to get from the airport to your destination. Cab fare is $50 to downtown, $35+ to Dearborn, $70+ to Novi, about $60 to Ann Arbor. There are a couple shuttles but unless you're lucky enough to time your flight right expect at least an hour hanging out in a baggage area that might or might not have access to coffee. I haven't tried Amtrak to DC yet, I hate driving 95 anywhere from Fredericksburg north. edit, BTW the Q Line is a joke. The idea of putting the "rails" on the side of the road and "allowing" parking to screw everything up defeats the entire purpose. They really should have done what they did in Cleveland. A dedicated bus line down the middle of road with barriers to keep other vehicles out.
