Charlotte is not used to this type of cold either. looks like the wind advisory expires around game time but with the real feel in the upper teens its going to be brutal for both teams. We're spending the weekend on Hilton Head, got in last night. Just too cold to even walk the beach today. Hopefully tomorrow.

That game was probably my real introduction to Lions' culture. After 10 years in Chicago and the end of the Ditka era to Dave Wannstedt, etc...only to land into the beginning of the Matt Milen , Marty Morhinweg fiasco. Just an aside note, part of my wife's job at the time was managing the radio broadcasts of the teams on the local CBS stations. In Chicago she had the Bears and Blackhawks. This was shortly after the merger of CBS Radio, Westinghouse, and Infinity Broadcasting. The Bears moved to WBBM from WMAQ (later the Score). Her new job in Detroit was similar for a few years. That final game was on Christmas Eve as I recall. The night before we hosted the Bears broadcast team for dinner. Fond memories of Tom Thayer sinking deeply into an overstuffed living room chair. The game was just icing on the cake. Maybe we were forewarned when the weekend we made an impromptu visit to Detroit was the same weekend Bobby Ross resigned and the Streeterville (?) neighborhood in Chicago had a massive power outage..

They keep forgetting that the idea of Christmas started out as a pagan celebration before being co-opted by corporate christians...

I have a friend who made the move from the DC area to Santa Fe, NM and loves it there. I think her original intent was Colorado. She lived in the Denver area about 25 or so years ago and loved it. Her former employer had an office there and she lobbied for a permanent transfer before she decided on early retirement. I think she looked at prices around Colorado Springs and Boulder.(She was also on a tiny house kick around then) Don't rule out Va. The summers aren't much worse than NJ and we get a bit less snow east of the Piedmont region. The Williamsburg area is becoming popular for retirees. Decent medical care, especially with Richmond only about an hour away. There are enough "cultural activities" to keep you interested. Plus Colonial Williamsburg and the rest of the Triangle area. Once again about an hour to Richmond and pretty much the same to Va Beach/Norfolk for decent regional airports.

A while back I mentioned a planned F-I Track/Housing development in Howell. It looks like it's fallen thru. Some right of way issues, including a gas pipeline on the property.
