  1. Just keep in mind Republicans made Jimmy Carter sell his farm and stopped brother Billy from cashing in on beer
  2. Having spent time in the business from back to 1970. I just about to the opinion that media companies really don't need the sticks anymore. Edit We really need a nationwide initiative to improve and provide internet service for everyone. I think COVID made that clear, especially for rural areas and many inner cities. That's if we were serious about improving educational opportunities for everyone
  3. For us it was two hours or so of guilty pleasure on a Sunday afternoon. Something we don't often do.
  4. Is that what qualifies her for Homeland Security. Killing dogs?
  5. They'd never run. Much easier to rent surrogates
  6. Looking around here. Virginia's "Historic Triangle" tourism reports seem a mix bag. By the Triangle, I'm referring to Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. I know CW has adjusted their pass prices downward a bit which indicates the market is a bit soft. With up coming events leading to the 250 Celebration, there's a hope that tourism and $$ will increase. As a local, watching things like road construction and such, it still seems that while still a destination for older folks. It's still a mixed bag for families. And at times feels like it's one of those "let's go look for an hour or two" on their way to or from somewhere else.
  7. The slow slide that started with lowering ownership restrictions with Reagan/Clinton seems to have turned into an avalanche. Back then no one could have foreseen what's been happening in recent years with things like streaming and such. Meanwhile while local cable restrictions have been lifted, governments seem content with monopolies in many markets. The promotion of companies like Verizon and T-Mobile for 5G for instance are basically a farce if you have multiple devices. I'm really not sure what real reform would look like these days
  8. I was skeptical before seeing it. It's good. You might want to check out the soundtrack first. The current "movie" that's out is a filmed Broadway performance they made in 2020 with the original actors. It's been rereleased for a temporary run in theaters. A lot less expensive than stage productions

  10. I was a young Pirate fan growing up in Western Pa. We moved south in 1964. I was one of two "Yankees" in my seventh grade class. It was also my first major lesson on gambling. I had about $15 riding on the Yankees in the World Series....
  11. I stopped wearing the Tiger cap I bought in early July about a week into the post 7/4 slump. Unfortunately it hasn't helped. I'm too cheap to burn it however. Just in case I'm refraining from wearing my Lions gear. Sticking to my Irish driving cap. Unfortunately the Joo Joo hasn't changed. My apologies
  12. I'm starting to wonder about Mike Tomlin's job. While they still have a winning record each of the last umpteen years, it seems like they're stuck in neutral. The front office may be more at blame here, but the coach usually goes first or they go in tandem. The failure to find a decent long term QB option is definitely a problem (Yes I'm anti Rodgers, that seems like a bad Art Rooney move)
  13. I guess I'm way ahead of the curve. I cancelled Disney a couple of years ago. I haven't been to a Disney Property in over 20 years. OK I did go to a Disney movie last weekend. I'm sure Trumpers disapprove of Hamilton though
  14. Of course this was published before the TPUSA Rally yesterday
  15. It resembles the Phillies collapse in 1964. They had a 6.5 game lead over the Cardinals with 12 games left. That included a 10 game losing streak...7 at home followed by three on the road. They did win the last two games but it was too late. The Cardinals went 9-2 during the stretch. Gene Mauch was accused of over using starters Chris Short and Jim Bunning too often, the bats went silent... https://sabr.org/gamesproj/game/september-25-1964-phillies-suffer-5th-straight-defeat-despite-late-homers-by-johnny-callison-****-allen/#:~:text=The Phillies' losing streak eventually, greatest collapses in baseball history.
  16. When you start agreeing with Carl Rove.
  17. This just feels like the best spot for this
  18. I once made a remark to a visitor at Colonial Williamsburg who asked if he could drive down the streets in the Colonial Area. He was a bit offended because I told him there were no cars in 1774. He could ride his horse... Some people just don't understand sarcasm
  19. My wife and i along with a couple thousand other folks had the honor or watching a preview screening of Ken Burns' new film American Revolution last night. The preview was held on the Battlefield in Yorktown, Va. The same grounds that General Cornwallis surrendered (actually, it was the General's second in command) to Gen Washington (it was Washington's second in command). Really nice night, field drills and presentation by the "Commander's Own" drum and bugle corps and Yorktown's Fife and Drum Corps, along with exerts from the six part series. This preview was made specifically for this event with several scenes featuring Yorktown and the Historic Triangle. When we got there my wife flashed back to 1981, the last time she was on this part of the Battlefield. She was a reporter. It was President Reagan's first speech after recovering from his gunshot wounds. The commemorated the 200th anniversary of the Victory at Yorktown. I tagged along that afternoon, but ended up about a half mile or so farther down the road. My view of the event in 1981 was watching the line of Secret Service Agents while hearing only snippets of the speech.
  20. September 21 https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/september-21 BTW in the end the British weren't enamored with him either
  21. If Trump doesn’t get the Nobel PEICE Priz. Bad things are going to happen
  22. Good to see the worst team in the ACC dominating (so far) the worst team in the Southern Conference

  24. The church Trump reported attended while growing up was pastored by Rev Norman Vincent Peale. Peale made a ton of money with his book The Power of Positive Thinking. Peale was also one of the earlier proponents of the Prosperity Gospel. Which IMO clashes with everything I was taught in Sunday School. It's focused too much on Self, Success and Psychology rather than teaching grace, humility, suffering and the effects of too much wealth. I was taught that grace without works is dead.
