  1. The guy I hired I knew from high school. Very intelligent and a good fit. He didn't last that long with us since there were other opportunities. He and his twin brother later became HBSC Presidents. He didn't last that long in that post for unknown reasons. Meanwhile my wife went on to manage two top ten market radio newsrooms.
  2. Even as late as the mid 70s opportunities for women and blacks were limited in many fields. I remember being told in 1975 we needed to add an African American and a woman to the air staff. The AA had to "sound white". Our sales manager kept bringing in women he met at the bar to be interviewed. In 1978 my wife was working at the legacy station in the state (think the equivalent to WJR) and was told by the General Manager that no woman was going to work morning drive on his station. She was also part of the first coed class admitted to UVa based on merit. There are a few hair raising stories there as well.
  3. I'm just saying the 1950s were not the Utopia Trumpers fantasize about.
  4. Lilly white school districts, limited opportunities for women. My dad worked briefly for Fisher Body in McKeesport Pa, he never knew whether he was working or not between layoffs and strikes. Same for the steel mills in the area as they all moved out of the area. It was the beginning of the breakup of the extended family as folks left the homestead to find decent paying jobs. Women could only be teachers or nurses. I won't even talk about race and redlining. The unemployment rate was similar to now...and people complained a lot about folks not wanting to work. FUN Times
  5. It's like discussing who is the greatest jazz artist of all time. Miles Davis, John Coltrain or Chick Corea. You are comparing apples to orange and bananas. There is really no wrong answer
  6. One of the problems with no succession for the Governor's office. No real accountability. Lots of ammunition for when he runs for President, however. He;s worse than the idiots in Florida and Texas combined
  7. The Trumpservative bubble he lives in tells him so.
  8. Somebody's short memory forgets Trump at Helsinki when he walked out with Putin looking a lot like an abused spouse. When Trump was around Putin he rolled on his back like a puppy looking for belly rubs and got his ass kicked. Trump would have remained neutral on Ukraine until he got a few favors, and then would have undermined NATO. At the very least he'd be doing what we're seeing from Isreal.
  9. I didn't want to turn the time change thread political but it appears that someone or two pulled a fast one... https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/03/18/senate-daylight-saving-time-vote-accident/
  10. I suspect these clowns are the same folks complaining about high gas prices. BTW who is paying these guys so they can go cruising like we did in 1970....before they made it illegal.
  11. I got my own crazy Trumpublican to worry about (Rob Whitman) This guy is in Culpepper...
  12. This guy will be running for Governor in '25. Meanwhile he challenge Spanberger again this year
  13. It's coming from the crazy right, who the hell really knows. Probably another lame attempt to own the "Libs"
  14. From what I'm reading this has all the vibes of a Trump rally
  15. Already in midseason form
  16. I would imagine owning a franchise is a bit like owning a boat or RV for us peons. The two best days......except you will most likely turn a nice profit when you sell. And there are the likelihood of trophies.
  17. Not sure how reliable this site is, but worth a check....
  18. It's already showing up in Michigan. And I assume other areas as well https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-health-watch/omicron-sub-variant-ba2-cases-creep-michigan-some-fear-another-wave?utm_source=Bridge+Michigan&utm_campaign=4d41dfe02e-Bridge+Newsletter+03%2F18%2F2022&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c64a28dd5a-4d41dfe02e-82571764
  19. Actually, it seems to be our kids that do that (I'm old). I really can't speak for my generation since I needed to be in the "office" by 5:30 most mornings. We did do a lot of daycare drop offs, however.
  20. When I was leaving the house for work during pre school hours it was mostly parents in their cars waiting for the bus.
  21. I learned my lessons early. In 7th grade, being the lone "Yankee" in my new school I bet about $10 on the Yankees beating the Cardinals in the 1964 World Series. Then there was the $50 bet with a friend when the "Bet you can't eat just one" Frito commercial came out. I lasted about 6 months before my pqrentw found out attempted to sabotage my efforts. We agreed to call off the bet.
  22. I'm embellishing a bit, the original proposal would have allowed Snyder to spend $1 Billion on the stadium, hotels, shopping, etc. It's been trimmed back, But this seems to be Youngkin's pet project... https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/03/08/virginia-commanders-stadium-financing/ Between that and the state school superintendents unanimously condemning things like the Governor's Tip Line....
  23. I have a feeling the winning issue for the Virginia Democrats may be Governor Fleece Vest and his cohorts wanting to give the Washington Red Commanders Northern Virginia....(for nothing)
