That would be spectacularly hilarious! Wait a second... NOT funny? Funny? Not funny? I can't decide... I don't know who to root for here. But if Venezuela (after capturing Trump) demands, and receives, a new US Administration under... Baraq Obama... I think I vote yes. But... What a weird place to be in at the moment!

From people who are searching for any possible way to put him down and therefore because he had one injury they are going to use that to the fullest... Or at least that's what it looks like to me.

I don't think Wonnum has ever been a 3.25 ERA guy. More like a 3.80 to 4.40 ERA guy... Who had an injury 3 years ago and a slow recovery (infection I believe) 2 years ago but started in 15 of 16 games last year. For the Carolina Panthers. Who played him out in space as a 6' 5" 258 OLB'er. In coverage. So they decided he would be better as a "Closer" than as an "innings-eating" mid-rotation guy. Seems smart to me. What do the Lions want with him? To play him at DE opposite Hutch, not as the star, or starter, but as the "innings eating" mid-rotation guy. Someone who is good at setting the edge against the run and can "run into" several sacks when the QB is trying to "get the **** away from that Hutch dude...". What is Wonnum's forte? Setting the edge at DE against the run. And walking into a few sacks when the QB is running for his life away from a DE like Hutch. It seems to me the Lions want Wonnum to be a mid-rotation "innings eating" 4.00 ERA guy who stabilizes the rotation. The rotation. Part of a rotation. Hmmm... I don't think we need anything more from Wonnum than to be a mid-rotation "innings-eater" 4.00 ERA guy. Sort of like... Exactly what he is. IMO.

PS: I am NOT going to say that it is going to happen (overthrowing the IRGC/ Basij forces)... Or that it is NOT going to happen (like I did in my original post...) But, rather, I am going to say... "Hmmmm....".
-
I'm going to go back to this... The only way the Iranian populace rises up to attempt a regime change... Is if the IRGC and Basij can be overthrown... otherwise, no chance. Here is what is going on right now and for the past two weeks: Israel is hunting down Iranian regime members in their hideouts, one by one Quick Summary: US and IDF forces are dividing Iranian targets. US attacking all military infrastructure... Israel (IDF) using all of its Iranian intelligence to eliminate IRGC and Basij leadership. Not just governmental leaders, revolutionary military forces/leadership. At least a couple thousand IRGC/ Basij deaths, wild guesstimate... Again, if there is any chance of a regime change... this is what it would look like at the beginning. Israel has the intelligence, and the weaponry... to conduct just this type of war.

I wouldn't call it a hole as Ratko has... But I am all for adding depth/ competition here just like any other position... So I think Holmes will target at least 1 TE in the draft. There's always the practice squad for guys who just miss but the team wants to develop as a future contributor to the team... A lot of our later draft picks this year (the ones that Holmes actually uses on a player...) I think are going to end up on a practice squad. Ours, or someone else's...
-
No, there are still guys out there right now, who could fill some of the holes you've mentioned. I don't know if there is an "official" end to the 2nd wave of free agency... Or just, as long as there are guys out there before the draft, the door should "figuratively" remain "open". Personally, I'm less focused on where we are, right now, then where we end up, just before training camp. Or at least a month or so after the draft when all the new wave (3rd wave?) of veteran releases have signed with teams... Or Detroit/ Holmes says "we're done, for now...". I mean, there are usually quite a few veteran trades during the draft for a pick that can end up helping a team. There are all the guys that are out there right now. There are all the vets that get released within two weeks after the draft as teams strip themselves (cap-wise) down a bit. "3rd wave of free agency." And there's the draft itself. As far as I can tell... Holmes is being very careful with cap money. He's not going after any big-ticket guys... but, at least it looks like to me... that he's picking up all sorts of capable guys (not world-beaters or flashy toys) at budget/ affordable prices. So I would just keep letting him do his job and I think there is no way to properly assess his off-season performance until we get far enough after this year's draft, and close enough to training camp to see where all the chairs have stopped moving. I also feel like he's picking up better depth guys... And as for the remaining holes on the team, well... We'll see.
-
Don't we have 9 or 10 picks? Isn't Holmes finding contributing players for the team in almost any round? No... he can use a 1st rounder on LT. And a 2nd rounder on a DE. And two 4th rounders on a secondary guy (CB?) and a TE. And two 5th rounders on a coverage LB'er and another secondary guy (Safety) for depth. And two 6th rounders on a depth between-the-tackles short yardage RB and another secondary guy (Safety?) for depth, or maybe a pass-rush specialist... And for his 7th rounder... well, how about Holmes uses that pick for whatever guy he feels best can help the Lions? Wouldn't that be novel? Just my 2 cents...

He is MORE Kwity Paye and NOT Paschal. IMO.
-
Boy... you're just going to any lengths possible to **** all over me. I gave multiple answers, all proclaiming him a rotational or depth DE. That I still want a better DE signing like Jordan, to be the starter and keep Wonnum where he belongs, as a depth DE. He's best at being an edge-setter, with some pass-rushing chops. Not a world-beater... just a good depth guy, where last year our depth was nil. Hmmm, who does that remind me of? Oh yeah, Kwity Paye, who I was all over wanting to add him because he would be a good... wait for it: depth DE. But he signed for $48 mill. Yeah, I'm excited for a depth DE (wherein last year we had virtually none) who reminds me a lot of Kwity Paye and costs $6 mill, not $48 mill. So yeah, go ahead and keep ****ting all over my posts and keep telling yourself I like him because the Lions signed him and for no other reason. That's a ****ty comment you made, BTW, in case I haven't mentioned that yet.

You're really trying to sell Wonnum as a scrap heap player. A bargain basement player only... Why is that? Why are you trashing this guy so badly?
-
And a far superior option to Muhammed.
-
I'm not going to mistake a defense suffering from a slew of injuries as a bad defense like you are...
-
Wonnum played in 16 games this past year, starting 15. Whatchu talkin' about Willis?
-
I think between Detroit's coaches, scheme, and Hutch... That there could actually be some hope for this. But I would wait'n'see. I think he has upside. I think he'll be a good rotational DE for Detroit. Good depth. Anything more than that will be gravy. So... We'll see.
-
I'm on board with the "MORE DEMS" plan and I don't care if they are red or purple state centrists or blue state progressives. Just get me more Dems... Please. But I get what you are saying...
-
Then get better players. A one-trick-pony pass-rusher-ONLY is NOT the answer.
-
PS: I wouldn't say that he "emerged" as much as "survived" the rash of injuries that struck the rest of the line and therefore was available versus... not. They had no choice but to put him on the field.
-
Muhammed was horse**** against the run, that's why.
-
Wonnum is NOT a 3-tech. That's a DT if you didn't know that. He's a 3-DOWN defensive end. He's best at stopping the run. Yeah, that's needed too. Why do you want someone who can ONLY rush the passer? the Lions HATED that Muhammed was **** against the run. That's why he is no longer with the team... aside from any money concerns. Put a pass-rusher ONLY on the field and he can be taken advantage of. I don't agree with this philosophy. I'll take Wonnum's rotational ability to do both: stop the run and rush the passer. He had 8 sacks for the Vikings when he was starting as a DE. Each... in two years 2021 and 2023.
-
Yes.
-
My only question would be: Is it him? Or was it how Carolina was using him. I sort of... don't trust Carolina. I think he was used much more at DE by the Vikings, and almost exclusively by Carolina in space as an OLB... Yes I know this. I still like him as a reclamation/ rotational/ depth DE guy for the Lions. Just a WAG... But I think Detroit gets a lot more out of him than Carolina did... and he'll be back to as effective as he was with Minny. Not as a dominant All-Star type DE... but just as a rotational/ depth DE that... This team also needs. That's all I'm saying. I like the guy and I think it's a good signing. I don't think Carolina used him effectively. Just my 2 cents.

Keep 'em coming...
-
Trump thinks he can bully everyone into submission. EU/Canada/China/Russia/etc...: Go **** yourself Trump.
-
PS: Wonnum has 30 sacks, 32 TFL's, 59 QB hits, 15 PD's and 3 FF's so far in his career... so he has some ability. Not certain what his pass-rush win rate is... But I think there's enough there for Detroit's coaches to work with...
