This is even better, and probably more accurate.

I don't think they'll let LaPorta go. Jamo, yes. I hope he has a great year in order to maximize Holmes choices (sign/ trade/ etc...). I think he'll be traded after next season's end. I don't know what an older O-Lineman would return... I would think nothing because you can just wait for lots of veterans to be waived by the end of training camp. I would think someone more like Sorsdal in that a team might believe he has enough talent and doesn't want to chance getting him going through the waiver process. Maybe a 6th or 7th for Sorsdal? Just guessing...

PS: If Hooker can't improve... I'll bet they draft a mid-round QB in next year's draft. For the same reasons as I outlined above.
-
I always felt the reason for drafting Hooker was different: 1) The team, including Holmes and Campbell, said right from the very start that they were fully behind Goff and believed that he was THE Lions QB. 2) That's never changed, and based on that, and knowing where starting QB AAV's were headed: 3) How much do you want to spend on a backup QB? $5 mill per year? $10 mill? More? Two of them, if needed? 4) THAT is a huge reason to take a chance on drafting a QB: not as a threat to Goff, but because of... money. 5) ALSO: they believed they were heading towards Super Bowl contention on an annual basis which means, IMO... the team had BETTER have a quality #2 QB to salvage a season or playoffs if Goff got nicked up for a few games. While Hooker was injured or on his learning curve that meant Teddy Bridgewater. My Summary: The team WANTS Hooker to step into the #2. They WANT him to show himself fully capable as a Bridgewater or a Goff-lite (IIRC, his draft comp was Goff...?). They WANT him on a cheap rookie contract. Or even a cheap second contract, as long as he proves himself worthy. Holmes took a risk with Hooker that he could get this. He didn't care if Hooker was older, injured, or a career backup to Goff. There was the possibility that Hooker could turn into a Bridgewater or Goff-lite... enough to be a dependable #2 QB on a Super Bowl level team. He may never get there. He might. they are PUSHING him hard to improve and get to that level. But THAT's the risky reasons Holmes made that pick. It had NOTHING to do with Goffs' "perceived" questionable status on this team. They NEVER waivered (Holmes & Campbell) in their support of Goff. IMO.

This. For relief help I'd look at 2nd tier like Max Anderson and some of our pitchers. Maybe Briceno? This would change the equation for certain. The first thing I would look at is what position are we talking about? IE: If it's Toronto seeking a package for Guerrero Jr.... shouldn't we start with Tork? If it's a star OF'er, do we start with Greene or Carpenter? I mean, if the Mets decided to trade Soto... shouldn't all options be considered?

Absolutely spot-on assessment...

That's exactly what the Red Wings need... some GRIT. A Brendan Shanahan, a McCarty and Kocur, a Konstantinov....

My 2 cents plus some additions: I think Tyleik will turn into Alim McNeil 2.0. Which means we will have the "Bash Brothers", or "Bruise Brothers", or whatever corny nickname catches on for these two, in the middle of our defense line. I predict nightmares for OC's we face once we get Alim back healthy. I'm excited about Ratledge and Frazier and the future of our O-Line too. We're getting close to some transitions (Glasgow, Ragnow, Decker... Zeitler already left) but I'm starting to feel really optimistic now whenever all these transitions happen. I'll get back to the O-Line in a sec... I like TeSlaa. If he becomes half of Puka Nacua (his inspiration) we did well with this pick. I think Jackson and Lovett are special teamers. At least for now. Maybe they can become backups in their positions but, we'll see. I'm actually interested in some of their UDFA's (again). Caden Prieskhorn (TE, Ole Miss) looks like an actual prospect. Not a high-end TE prospect, more like a Brock Wright 2.0 type of prospect. Good enough to have a chance at making the roster as 3rd TE or at least the Practice Squad. Ian Kennelly (Safety, Grand Valley State) looks like an actual prospect. Even looks like more of a 3rd safety than Dan Jackson, IMO. But Div II college. Still, good enough (IMO) to have a chance at making the roster as 3rd Safety or at least the Practice Squad, to develop. Leif Fautanu (Center, ASU) looks like an actual prospect. Probably starts out on the Practice Squad. We'll hear more in training camp whether he has a chance... or not. We have a Center UDFA from last year still with us, Kingsley Eguakuan... The transition from Ragnow in the future is a little less clear than at Guard. Or even Tackle (Manu for Decker...?) So I'll be interested in how Fautanu and Eguakun develop. Are they backups only? Or could they actually push to start...? We also signed Za'Darius Smith's nephew - Jackson Meeks, WR, Syracuse - as a priority UDFA for $200K. Isn't that funny? But he's another X, although with less speed/ athleticism than TeSlaa. Still... very interesting...! I haven't been that interested in UDFA's in years but... I think I want to follow these guys to see how they do in training camp... along with our drafted rookies... Just my 2 cents.
-
Plus we just "priority signed" his nephew as an UDFA for training camp.

On ESPN subscriber... college coaches pick sleeper prospects for the NFL draft, their choices included: Miles Frazier, Ahmed Hassanein, and Dan Jackson...

Couple of late special teamers...
-
Miami just took your Quinn Ewers, right after we picked a Safety at #230...
-
I'm thinking the same...

Watch Holmes find two guys in the 7th... Practice Squad guys... But great on ST's and depth for the secondary and LB'er... Who eventually make their way onto the active roster.

And don't forget Egyptian Sun God: Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Here's a longer version of the same interview (20 min's long... a mention of the Lions and Dan Campbell... and the definition of "sarcasm"... and an AWESOME story about Aaron Donald, Matt Stafford, and a kid with cancer...):

Here's an ESPN story on Hassanein: Boise State's Ahmed Hassanein is on the verge of NFL history - ESPN

... close ENOUGH!!! (I wonder if this is what Holmes meant when he said about an Edge: "We have some ideas...")

I'd prefer Jared Ivey.
