  1. Smartass. 😉
  2. Primarily from multiple paper companies along the Cuyahoga that dumped waste chemicals into the river. It dumps into Lake Erie... hence the common "Lake Erie is on fire" quips.
  3. The Cuyahoga River has a notorious history of fires, with at least 14 recorded incidents, the most famous occurring in 1969, which became a catalyst for the American environmental movement. Overview of Fires The Cuyahoga River, located in Northeast Ohio, has been heavily impacted by industrial pollution, particularly during the 19th and 20th centuries when Cleveland emerged as a manufacturing hub. The river caught fire multiple times, with notable incidents in 1868, 1912, 1948, 1952, and 1969. The 1969 fire, sparked by an oil slick ignited by a train's spark, lasted about 20 minutes and caused approximately $50,000 in damage, primarily to railroad bridges. Wikipedia+1 The 1969 Fire On June 22, 1969, the Cuyahoga River caught fire due to industrial debris and oil slicks on its surface. Although the fire was relatively minor and extinguished quickly, it garnered significant media attention, particularly after Time magazine published an article that described the river as one that "oozes rather than flows". This incident helped to raise awareness about water pollution and its environmental impacts, leading to a broader public outcry for environmental reform. Smithsonian Magazine+2 Impact on Environmental Policy The 1969 fire became a symbol of the environmental crisis in America, contributing to the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1970 and the first Earth Day celebrations. It highlighted the need for stricter regulations on industrial pollution and spurred efforts to clean up the river, which has since seen significant improvements in water quality and ecosystem health. Wikipedia+1 Historical Context Prior to the 1969 fire, the Cuyahoga River had burned multiple times, with the most severe incident occurring in 1952, which caused over $1 million in damages. Despite the frequency of these fires, public concern was minimal, as pollution was often viewed as a necessary byproduct of industrial growth. The changing attitudes towards environmental issues in the late 1960s, however, marked a turning point in public perception and policy regarding pollution and conservation efforts. Smithsonian Magazine+1 Conclusion The Cuyahoga River fire history serves as a critical reminder of the consequences of industrial pollution and the importance of environmental stewardship. The events surrounding the 1969 fire catalyzed a significant shift in environmental policy in the United States, leading to ongoing efforts to restore and protect the river and its ecosystem.
  4. Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. Your Shooms... is complete bull****. If it takes Dem votes to help a REPUBLICAN Senate pass a budget... That means the Pubs MUST negotiate with the Dems. Telling the Dems "**** you" means... It's the Dems fault? BULL****. And you KNOW it.
  5. This makes the most sense to me. So on a balance scale: An investigation turns up that a Detroit Org insider (Jamo or otherwise) knew this was a highly probable scoring play and got word out to a family member or buddy, the better. MAJOR BLACK EYE... on EVERYONE. The League, the Lions, the player, etc./etc./etc. OR: The League calls up the officials in the game and tells them: "OVERTURN this NOW!!!" Which is worse?
  6. While I agree with this... It wouldn't bother me if Holmes made a move. He could make no move. A Zadarius Smith move. Or a major move. Obviously I'm not going to tell him how to do his job... and I'm going to be fine with whatever they decide to do because... well, they seem to know what they are doing. By the same token, I hope if Holmes trades Ennis Rakestraw and two 1sts (or whatever that package is) for Sauce Gardner that everyone gets behind Brad's move, and Sauce Gardner, and we all end up happy with his trade. Panic, or otherwise. Oh, and the 4 straight Super Bowl wins as a result of that trade!!! 😉
  7. For example: If the Pirates offered us Paul Skenes and Konnor Griffin for Skubal, at the trade deadline, I would say yes. But then... Is that very likely?
  8. If the trade return is FAR more than a comp pick... And, HOW FAR out of it would we need to be? A couple games out of the wild card or division doesn't make me want to trade him. So... how far out? And what trade package at the deadline says "oh, we should do this as it's far superior to a comp pick at the end of the 1st round" ? (26-30-ish per what some others have posted in here some where...)
  9. Alternatively to a free agent... or an injured 40-man spot... Might as well start throwing these spots to kids in the minors. Out with the old, in with the new, per se. Even if it's a minor leaguer with his own set of injuries (Jake Miller, RJ Petit?) Just my 2 cents.
  10. Conversely... Some pitching decisions may need to be made and if the issue is one more year before free agency but currently injured.... Then why are we holding a 40-man spot for him? We may need to jettison some guys from the 40 if they are not providing actual current value.
  11. I don't think the trade deadline offers will be worth more than Skubal playing out the season PLUS the comp pick. I think those will be subpar offers and I'd rather just hang out with Skubal for the last of the season. Now... the offseason offers MIGHT get us a Godfather offer we can't refuse... But I don't think we'll get good enough offers at the deadline so my inclination is to just write that off as a possibility.
  12. This is a true statement. So I'm not on the PANIC-side of this... which it seems a few of us are. And quite a few are not in panic mode. To me, it's quite simple: A) Sign him to an extension this offseason. B) No extension? See what the offers are. A Godfather offer? I say yes to that. C) NO extension and NO Godfather offer...? Keep him. Play out 2026 with Skubal at the top of the rotation and take the comp pick. Screw a trade deadline trade... I'm not even considering that. It's as easy, and as simple, as A-B-C. To me.
  13. Which is why I'd rather it be the Phillies or Dodgers if Skubal insists on hitting free agency. And they're both loaded too in the farm system.
  14. I still want to trade for a key cornerback. It doesn't even have to be a guy worth a 1st rounder or two. Just someone who is effective in the Lions scheme... Oh, and healthy. I'd rather our season not slide into a downward spiral because we have no secondary left. Just my 2 cents.
  15. Kevin McGonigle and Max Anderson start strong in the Arizona Fall League | Bless You Boys Kevin McGonigle and Max Anderson start strong in the Arizona Fall League Both infielders have played a lot of third base so far. by Brandon Day Oct 13, 2025, 7:00 AM EDT
  16. Here's a link to the Scottsdale Scorpions: 2025 Scottsdale Scorpions minor league baseball Statistics on StatsCrew.com But it's saying no games have been played yet...
  17. PS: If Skubal/Boras want an extra $25 mill... Just for bragging rights... $5 mill roster bonus at the beginning of each salary change year.
  18. I like this as our best option. 10 years $400 mill 2027-28 $50 mill each year. (30 years old at the start) 2027-28 $45 mill each year. (32 years old at the start) Opt out available after the 4th year is completed. 2027-28 $40 mill each year. (34 years old at the start) Opt out available after the 5th & 6th year is completed. 2027-28 $35 mill each year. (36 years old at the start) Opt out available after the 7th year is completed. 2027-28 $30 mill each year. (38 years old at the start)
  19. Thanks. And Max Anderson (2B and DH). I don't know why I forgot to include him but he's definitely in the mix.
  20. DH?!?!?! How about Greene, Carpenter, Malloy and Jones each spend some time there, along with Keith and/or Jung... I don't think we need to worry about "DH", at all.
  21. On 2B and/or SS and/or backup 3B... List of candidates: Hao Yu Lee (mostly 2B and 3B) Trei Cruz (2B, SS, 3B) Javier Baez (2B, SS, 3B, OF including CF) Matt Vierling (CF and backup or RH'ed 3B) Zach McKinstry (2B, SS, 3B) Andy Ibanez (2B and 3B) Kevin McGonigle (SS, 2B, and... 3B?) Trey Sweeney (SS) Jace Jung (2B and 3B) And it would also be sweet if Wenceel Perez could get over his "yips" at 2B and again be a candidate for playing time there. Somehow... we need to be able to piece together a middle infield and 3B out of all these guys (including Keith). IMO.
  22. Plus, his shoulder has apparently healed enough that he can, health-wise, make the throws from 3B. I concur... 3B should be his position... unless or until proven otherwise.
  23. Was that AJ or was that Hamonic? I'm pretty certain Hamonic was the culprit and AJ was just stuck on a pairing with him but my memory does not serve well. The bottom line is that Chiarot is gone after this season, or if he comes back it really has to be in a reduced role. So in my mind, this team should be preparing, at the very least, for a changing of the top two pair "guard". So let's say Seider gets a rotation of 1st pair LHD's... Chiarot when facing a bigger, physical team. AJ when facing smaller, shiftier teams. And Edvinsson here and there, DURING each game but never as a straight-up pairing. Unless we develop an actual 2nd pairing... I think we're stuck with NOT pairing these two up except for occasional matchups during the game. Maybe Wallinder or Buium will qualify as a true 2nd-pair LHD and can take over that spot... but we've yet to see any indication of that. That's the best I can think of at the moment. Unless Wallinder or Buium suddenly become more physical on NHL ice... There's just no perfect matchup with Mo, except for Edvinsson.
  24. I am going to have to go for a visit!!!
  25. Ran out of reactions... I concur.
