  1. I'm not convinced that China won't attack Taiwan on its own schedule no matter what happens in Ukraine. That said, there is merit to this point of view. The 1960s perspective would be that not everything is Munich. The 1930s perspective would be that yes, but Munich was terrible for Czechoslovakia and Poland and everywhere else. The US genuinely is racing to match a massive arms buildup in the Western Pacific and bringing as many allies as can be gathered to the collective security structure there. Chinese weapons being sent to Russia to help them kill Ukraine seem to be happening and that sucks. An interesting potential future development would be when China decides to try out their newest weapons in Ukraine to give them real world tests. I'm sure Russia would love that. I'm sure it would have devastating effects.
  2. I really enjoyed the twitter hits on Rogers. You can't be a lunatic anti-science person and expect people to treat your medical diagnosis not a cause for that.
  3. I kinda wonder if the transfer departures were due to grapevine of this getting around.
  4. Serious female Sparty energy Whenever my kids burp I always say..."that's your sparty side coming out." #housedivided.
  5. My buddy stopped me and asked me if hating the Packers was still a thing with Aaron Rogers gone. I told him I was merely interested that they look bad as a division rival.
  6. The irony of quantum computing is that the one nation -- the PRC -- that has a Apollo Moon/Manhattan Project to build it and expand our technical knowledge thereby leaping them forward technologically -- is the one that will -- to borrow the line from Orwell's O'Brien character in 1984 -- use it to smash the human face with a boot forever. Perhaps there will still be needles and haystacks but it will be a lot harder to be one in that society.
  7. My limited knowledge of the science is that they want to find a better material for these batteries and that Li-Ion batteries are sort of an interim step of sloppy, semi-hard to get stuff until we figure out how to make them out of .. I dunno pig entrails. I used to be fascinated with knife steel and thought 440C was the cat's pajamas and I now find out they have like 30 better knife steels than that since I last paid attention to this in the early 1990s. Quantum computing requires building sized computers and intense cold to work. But, by the time I have hugged my grand kids (i'm in my late 50s with a kid in college) I expect that will be a a room sized machine at room temperature and it will do things we never thought possible.
  8. Your saying that environmentalists are wishing to stop people from mining something in Nevada? I'm searching for the right analogy for that. My question: is this actually a good investment? I dropped a small amount of money into an Australian/Malaysian mining company that the US DoD had invested in to develop an Australian lithium field and that investment has not been the big gainer I thought it would. Maybe more to do with the uncertainty in the market.
  9. I saw this article as well. https://www.chemistryworld.com/news/lithium-discovery-in-us-volcano-could-be-biggest-deposit-ever-found/4018032.article I'm all over getting more of this out of the hands of kleptocrats.
  10. I asked my son if the campus was buzzing about this (@1pm on a Sunday where they serve breakfast in the cafeterias until 3:30pm) and he was like, "what?" But, the people who worry about such things are likely in the know and ready to light fire to the AD's office.
  11. Where is Freeppitchbot twitter feed?
  12. This is our concern, Dude.
  13. Your priors are well established. I know where you stand on all this. The narrative of him losing Iowa or coming in some middling place in the polls is important to starting the mudslide against him. So, I'm gonna use that picture against him. That and this:
  14. What we had working for us was they had that 5th columnist WR who played for us but dressed for the Chiefs.
  15. As a parent of an MSU student I have to pay attention to this with a level of seriousness I wish I didn't. My god MSU get your crap together. But please don't hire a good coach.
  16. The defense though...woof. That's amazing what they look like. That UNLV offense was designed to scare the shiz out of an elite program and it looked like Georgia or Alabama (prior to 2023) playing them
  17. I see what I see in the picture.
  18. I guess they don't love him
  19. Michigan looked solid. Donovan Edwards appears to lack burst like he had last season. Not sure what his issue might be.
  20. When i thought this team was different was taking Aaron Roger's mana away from him. When I saw something really different: was the Chief's Andy Reid looking panicked on the sideline on Thursday night.
  21. So, UK has always been very forward leaning about supporting Ukraine.
  22. I so want to send this to the Musk fan I know. I know the response will be heavily nuanced. I really don't want this wanna-be God Emperor to be in charge of a Mars colony.
  23. Dang We really are in a different world than we were in before COVID. China is breaking down a lot of good will with the outside world and wondering why people are reacting the way they are reacting to them becoming a more insular, crazified country that thinks using AI and quantum computing tools against its citizens is somehow going to lead to better Communism. Russia for its part is just so broken and wistful for its glory days that its going to take a generation for it to "recover" to some form that isn't a complete pariah. --- Unless Trump wins in 2024. If he wins and appoints Ambassador Mike Flynn or Matt Gaetz then, the spigot of US tech to Russia will be unleashed.
  24. Well, she is a Sparty female.
