    He's got those weird techno-fascistic tendencies. He can rattle off nomenclature and other techno-babble with the best of them. He clearly wants to take the pis out of the authorities but also seems to find a lot of the world of police and authority of interest.

    For as mid a movie as it is...can't believe how many times I watched "Doctor Detroit" The 80s and cable tv were a weird time. It had its moments but the premise was pretty insane. Only studios with drug addled executives would greenlight that.

    That's awesome but as a lifelong fan of ball you know there is always someone in your rearview. The Orioles were still hot on our heels in 1984 well into summer even after that start we had.

    Stupid management got what it deserved. And we all suffered. Imagine that team adding some FA pitching. Looking at BR I see the following: https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/1988-free-agents.shtml I don't see some of those as likely to come to Detroit but... not having a reputation for miserly behavior would help.

    That core might have been in the playoffs a couple more times if they didn't lose Parish for one, Gibson for two and then Morris. I don't know that the 1989 Tigers were fixable because they just had it all go wrong. Sparky having to leave the team for a while was all about the sudden demise of his machine. Gibson in 1988 was a majestic beast. Imagine still having him then.

    Young Frankenstein is a Mel Brooks movie too. That one has a lot going for it. The scene where Gene Hackman plays the blind man that the monster finds in the cabin in the woods. I still will announce things like he does "CIGARS!"

    My father is 96 but his dad arrived in the United States from the UK in 1901 and may not have received US citizenship (he was a US Army veteran of WW1). So, Dad now 96 years old may have to go to South Sudan or El Salvador until his vague US Citizenship status (he was an USAF officer during the Korean War). Damn shame these cheaters, cheating the system.

    Mel Brooks comedy tree: so many good ones. I left "Blazing Saddles" off the list above and regret that. I notice that he actually fought in the town in Germany in WWII that I was stationed in during the 80s: Baumholder.
