  1. Great thread. Loved some of these movies. To get down to 4...that's tough. "Death of Stalin" is great but its humor is not as important as it tackling the subject matter. Very similar to "Doctor Strangelove" in that regard. all of the Monty Python movies are great and I love all the humorous movies that Terry Gilliam did since (e.g., "The Fisher King", "Twelve Monkeys"). My American Mount Rushmore of Comedy: I'm going to have to work hard to narrow this down to 4. "This is Spinal Tap" The police said it was a crime best left, unsolved really - Rob Reiner comedy tree "Galaxy Quest" We've got to get out of her before one of those things kills Guy! "Tommy Boy" "The Big Lebowski" "Office Space" "Stripes" "Animal House" and "Vacation" both from National Lampoon "The Blues Brothers" "Zoolander" "Spy" My British Trafalgar Square of Comedy "In Bruges" The Corneto Trilogy: "Hot Fuzz," "Shaun of the Dead," "At the End of the World" All the Monty Python movies: "Holy Grail" being leader of the pack
  2. another 80s actress with a Justin Verlander/Max Scherzer fastball. Gretta Scachi, very cute Aussie who was in a movie that for some reason was on max rotation called The Coca Cola Kid.
  3. woops...Austria https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enns_(town)
  4. Dietrich Enns didn't speak with either a Prussian or Hessian accent? He also wasn't wearing the Von Enns crest or his monocle.
  5. two endorsements. Hmmm... I was thinking about Rachel Ward the other day...that woman had a fastball. Kelly Preston also could bring it.
  6. I thought Tuesday night was a perfect "fun game" but today with a huge unknown pitching and all the shuttieoutiesness of it...was gooder. I also didn't see very much because I was working.
  7. I'm good with that. He's where he needs to be at the bottom of the lineup for now. His speed is an amazing, nay unstoppable weapon in MLB the show. He has yet to turn that into a 120 stolen base season in reality. More is the pity.
  8. what is weird about that movie is that Kelly Preston died so young.
  9. Little Dieter wants to fly!
  10. Maybe even as a Detroit Tigers manager in a game where the pitcher is an aging vet who is considering retirement and is pitching a fantastic final game. I see John C. Reilly as a catcher type.
  11. Parker is not yet as hot a hitter as he was last Fall. Dang.
  12. I just saw him in "Patriot Day" on the tv last night and I was angry for him being in a movie that made Red Sox fans happy in any way. Except he was good in the movie and it is actually a gripping story.
  13. This is machine translated so...my son who has good German skills would laugh at me... Ich werde mit großer Effizienz und Sorgfalt pitchen
  14. The Berlin Airlift is a very appealing historical marker for US Air Force and stands in contrast to the 'knights of the sky' ethos of the fighter community. It involved crews working their asses off for an extended period to do a difficult and literally dirty job (coal), for a peaceful purpose that benefitted the peace over conflict.
  15. The sequence of not caught stealing on review and 3 run hr against is not great.
  16. Re: being "fixed". My wife thinks this is top 5 funniest memes she has seen. She's an animal lover who had a black cat who looked just like this so, make of that what you will.
  17. Current starting players for the Twins: Willie Castro Kody Clemens Not on current MLB roster: Jonathan Schoop Robbie Grossman Miguel Cabrera Currently on a MLB roster: Eric Haase (Milwaukee)
  18. Maybe MGOBLOG but it would come with a dash more smarminess.
  19. Trump being questioned by foreign press at the NATO summit is being a complete and usual ass hat.
  20. those VA ABC stores are weird aren't they? Without more evidence I have to think they continue to exists because the NOVA crowd is so damn nerdy and hates that kind of fun. But, maybe its lip service to the old blue laws. I do know that if you are in the parking lot by one of these stores just prior to them opening you see a certain kind of zombie lurking, waiting to go in to buy today's poison.
  21. daily dose of estragon: "I have to remark on this here (really love the clip) because it is so striking how Benetti, truly a master of rhetorical and audiophonic technique, twice in intro-ing this segment reaches straight the **** down into Anglo-Saxon and literally declaims "HWAET!" to draw attention to Bruce's requests." — Bluesky
  22. they realize they are going to lose over this. Maybe they want that to happen so they can finally be rid of these idiot MAGA people.
  23. The real problem will be the multi-million dollar parades he orders to celebrate his birthday. How he will defund the public health offices because he has crackpot friends. He will invite his oligarch friends into the datasets of all city citizens and drop taxes on them to laughable low levels and stop all enforcement of tax code violations. Then he'll wage a totally uninformed war on science and then demand to win a noble prize for his mounting an unsanctioned attack on a foreign country.
  24. How many Dietrich's have the Tigers had on their roster over the years? None... Detroit Tigers all-time roster - Wikipedia This is a heck of a long road he's been on...and all that time he was just on his journey...home. Dietrich Enns Amateur, College, Minor, Winter, Independent, Japanese & Korean Leagues Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com It turns out he was the last winner of the Knights cross of the Iron Cross with oak leaves and diamonds and refused to be evacuated from East Prussia and spent time after capture in the infamous Lubyanka Prison in Moscow. I wonder if MLB will allow him to pitch with the monocle. Dietrich von Saucken - Wikipedia
