  1. Perfect game broken up. Baltimore announcers are calling it a swinging bunt, but just seemed like a soft hit ground ball to me. I think the scorer could review whether to change the hit + error to a straight error.
  2. Perfect 7 innings for Brandon Young. He went to 3-0 on the final batter of the 7th inning but got him to ground out.
  3. Brandon Young of Baltimore, who came into the game with a 0W 6L record with a 6.02 ERA and 1.56 WHIP has pitched a perfect 6 innings versus Houston. 62 pitches.
  4. Guardians lose. The Tigers' lead is 7 games.
  5. Braves extend lead over Cleveland to 2-0 in the top of the 9th.
  6. The Brewers are amazing. When the Reds jumped out to an 8-1 lead after 2 innings, you’d think surely tonight is when Milwaukee’s 12-game winning streak comes to an end. Not so fast. 4th inning now, 8-8.
  7. They're winning 1-run ballgames against sub-.500 teams. So yeah, the 11-6 feels a bit "soft". But still, the wins count in the standings.
  8. The Tigers hit bottom (we hope) three Saturdays ago, July 26. With 56 games still to go, the Tigers' division lead had shrunk to 7.0 over Cleveland, they were 3.5 games behind Toronto who led the AL, and they were 0.5 games behind Houston for the bye into the ALDS. Since then the Tigers have gone 11-6 and, apart from losing a mere 0.5 game in the standings to Cleveland and neither gaining nor losing ground with Seattle, have gained on everyone else with now only 39 games to go. The Tigers have picked up: 3.0 games on Toronto; 2.5 games on Houston; 1.5 games on Kansas City; 4.0 games on Minnesota; 3.0 games on New York Yankees; 0.5 game on Boston; 5.0 games on Texas; and 5.0 games on Tampa.
  9. Dan D and Bobby Sales didn't even think the pitch was tipped, even though the ump called it that way.
  10. 4 of the Tigers' past 5 wins have been by 1 run. 6-5 over LA Angels last Friday, 2-1 over the White Sox, 1-0 over the White Sox and 4-3 over the Twins.
  11. Tigers win! My apologies to Rafael Montero.
  12. That's one. Let's try to get another or two.
  13. I'm still terrified of Buxton. I don't think you can walk him to put a runner in scoring position, but geesh, be careful.
  14. That's probably ballgame. Tigers don't score, looks like Montero is coming in, and Buxton will be up 3rd if it gets that far.
  15. I wonder if Finnegan will be sent back out for the 9th if the Tigers don't break the tie in the top of the inning. I assume that if the Tigers do score Vest will be brought in for the attempted save.
  16. Riley Greene saves an extra base hit. Player of the game tonight for sure.
  17. Tigers face the depleted Twins bullpen and in 2 2/3 inning so far tonight have 0 runs 0 hits and 1 walk off of it.
  18. Good recovery by Skubal. Retires 13 of 14 after giving up 3 in the 3rd inning.
  19. Greene homers. Back in the old days, a 2-run homer during a Skubal start would mean an automatic win.
  20. 5 of the past 6 Twins hitters have reached base. The only one who didn’t drove in a run in a groundout.
  21. Homer, double, single. Skubal’s bad inning coming a bit earlier tonight.
  22. We’re due for some obligatory strikeouts. Not one the first time through the order.
  23. "Dietrich Enns got through a nervy 9th inning for his 3rd career save...Was there every any doubt? I think not". 2H 1R 1BB. Orioles beat the Mariners.
  24. Speaking of goalies, I was at the local rink today and saw goalies galore! If Yzerman was there he may have signed a couple. Funny, of all my years around the sport, this is first time I recall stumbling upon a goalie camp. Anyways, it’s a neat facility, 8 Rinks, Canucks used to practice there, and this time of year many Vancouver area NHLers and prospects use it to get in some on-ice workouts prior to heading out to their team camps. Celebrini has been there several times this month, there was an Oiler and a Lightning player or prospect there today but I didn’t recognize them.
